Election Results 2024 Live Updates: Hemant Soren resigns as CM; stakes claim to form government

Election Results 2024 Live Updates: Maharashtra and Jharkhand Assembly election results clearly highlight that regional parties are and will remain pivotal to Indian politics, stated BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao on Saturday. In a post on 'X,' he criticized the Congress party for its failure to emerge as a strong opposition and accused it of undermining regional parties.

"The message is loud and clear! The Maharashtra and Jharkhand election results reaffirm that regional parties have always been, and will continue to be, the backbone of Indian politics. The Congress party, unable to establish itself as a formidable opposition, seems fixated on weakening regional parties. This recurring theme speaks volumes," he wrote.

According to the latest trends from the Election Commission's website, the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance is heading towards a decisive victory in Maharashtra. In Jharkhand, the JMM-led INDIA bloc was leading in 50 of the 81 assembly seats, while the NDA was ahead in 30.

Rama Rao further criticized the BJP's reliance on the Congress's weaknesses, stating that the BJP's survival hinges on the Congress's "inability and incompetence." He accused both national parties of "shamelessly piggybacking on the hard work and commitment of regional parties."

Taking a jab at Telangana Congress Chief Revanth Reddy, Rama Rao mocked his campaigns and speeches in Maharashtra, claiming they had failed to salvage the Congress party's performance. He urged Reddy to focus on delivering the "six guarantees" the Congress had promised during the Telangana assembly elections last year.

Election Results 2024 Live: Nana Patole says it will be Congress-led govt in Maharashtra; Sanjay Raut differs
Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole’s statement that a Congress-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government will take charge in the state has sparked discontent within the alliance. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut, on Thursday, clarified that the chief ministerial candidate would be decided collectively by all MVA partners.

"A Maha Vikas Aghadi government will be formed in Maharashtra under the leadership of the Congress. Trends indicate that Congress will win the maximum seats," Patole said on Wednesday after polling concluded for the state assembly elections.

In response, Raut affirmed that the MVA would form the government but emphasized a collective decision-making process for selecting the chief ministerial face. He further remarked, "If the Congress high command has assured Patole of being the CM face, then Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and leaders Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra should make a formal announcement."

The Congress-led UDF is hopeful of a resounding victory for AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in Wayanad, where she is making her electoral debut in the hill constituency previously held by her brother Rahul Gandhi, as well as retaining the Palakkad assembly seat.

The UDF also aims to capture the Chelakkara assembly constituency, asserting that they can capitalise on what they claim to be growing anti-incumbency against the CPI(M)-led LDF government in the state.

Meanwhile, the LDF is focused on retaining Chelakkara, a traditional Left stronghold, with a significant margin. They are also aiming to improve their performance in the Palakkad and Wayanad seats.

Election Results 2024 Live: Maharashtra’s voter turnout is 66%, almost 5% higher than 2019 polls

This marks a significant increase from the 61.1% turnout recorded in 2019. The last time voter participation was higher was in 1991, with a turnout of 71.7%.

Political observers attribute this surge to the intense competition between the ruling Mahayuti and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi alliances. The closely fought contest prompted all parties to mobilize their supporters and ensure higher voter turnout at polling stations.

Election Results 2024 Live: Who will be the next Maharashtra CM? Mahayuti and MVA allies propose different candidates
Even before the first votes are counted in Maharashtra, tensions have surfaced within the ruling Mahayuti and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) regarding leadership of the next government. Members of both alliances are staking their claim to the chief minister's post, sparking disagreements even as they await the election results.

With polling for the 288-member assembly concluding on Wednesday evening, both sides have begun asserting that the mandate will swing in their favor when votes are tallied on November 23.

State Congress chief Nana Patole confidently declared that an MVA government led by his party would take charge. Citing voting trends, Patole claimed the Congress would emerge as the largest party in the new assembly. However, his statement ruffled feathers within the alliance, particularly with Shiv Sena (UBT).

Sanjay Raut, a senior Shiv Sena (UBT) leader, responded on Thursday, emphasizing that the chief ministerial candidate would be decided collectively by all alliance partners once the MVA secures a majority.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Mahayuti alliance secured a resounding victory in the Maharashtra Assembly elections, decimating the challenge posed by the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) and delivering the Congress its worst-ever defeat in the state. Meanwhile, the opposition's INDIA bloc found solace in Jharkhand, where the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-Congress alliance retained power with a commanding majority.

Maharashtra Election Results:
The ruling Mahayuti alliance achieved a total of 235 seats, overwhelming the MVA, which managed just 49. Within the alliance, the BJP emerged as the largest party with 132 seats, followed by Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena with 57 and Ajit Pawar's NCP faction with 41. On the opposition side, Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT) won 20 seats, the Congress 16, and the NCP (Sharad Pawar) faction 10. The Samajwadi Party secured 2 seats, while independents and smaller parties won 10.

In terms of vote share, the BJP led with 26.77%, followed by the Congress with 12.42%, Shiv Sena with 12.38%, NCP (SP) with 11.28%, and Shiv Sena (UBT) with 9.96%.

### Jharkhand Election Results:
In Jharkhand, the JMM-Congress alliance dominated, winning 56 seats in total. The JMM secured 34 seats, the Congress 16, the RJD 4, and CPI (ML) 2. The BJP-led NDA managed 24 seats, with the BJP taking 21, while the AJSUP and LJPRV won 1 seat each.

Interestingly, despite its loss, the BJP recorded the highest vote share in Jharkhand at 33.18%, contesting 68 seats. The JMM, which contested fewer seats, garnered 23.44%, while the Congress secured 15.56%.

These results highlight the BJP's continued dominance in Maharashtra and the INDIA bloc's ability to hold ground in Jharkhand, showcasing the diverse political landscape across states.
