NEW DELHI: The Election Commission (EC) is set to announce the poll schedules for Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram,
Rajasthan, Telangana and Chhattisgarh.
The commission has convened a press conference Saturday afternoon.
It will also most likely announce the poll schedule for Telangana.
Sources in the commission said that the entire election exercise will be completed by the first week of December.
While polls in Chhattisgarh are likely to be held in two phases, elections in the other states might see polling in one phase, they said.
CEC O P Rawat held a meeting with chief electoral officers of five pollbound states in Delhi on Friday. The CEOs of Rajasthan, MP, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Mizoram attended the two-day meeting.
"The meeting discussed the poll preparedness of the five states, including revision of electoral rolls and availability of central forces for deployment. While the Telangana assembly is already dissolved, the term of the Mizoram assembly will end on December 15, and that of the state assemblies of Chhattisgarh, MP and Rajasthan on January 5, 7 and 20 in 2019 respectively. It is possible that Telangana polls could be delinked and held earlier than the other four. It is also likely that polls of all five states could be held simultaneously,” said sources.
