NEW DELHI: Exiled Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama underwent a surgery for the removal of gall bladder at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital early on Friday morning. His condition is said to be stable and he is likely to be discharged by Sunday.
He was suffering from acute abdominal pain for the past few days and had undergone extensive medical check-ups a few days back at the same hospital.
``He is doing fine and would be discharged in a couple of days. Doctors have told us that he can travel in the coming days,'' said Tempa Tsering, Dalai Lama's representative in Delhi.
The 73-year-old was admitted to the hospital on Thursday. He was taken to the operation theatre at 8am on Friday and was operated by a team of doctors headed by Dr PK Chowbey, chairman of minimal access surgery.
A source in the hospital said: ``Lama's gall bladder was removed through laproscopic surgery. As a conventional practice we remove the entire gall bladder in such cases. He is recovering and is doing fine.''
