Cyclonic storm continues causing damage

The Met Department reported that the Cyclone Remal had weakened into a cyclonic storm by Monday morning, with wind speeds ranging from 80 to 90 kilometres per hour. The storm made landfall around midnight on Sunday, causing heavy rainfall in Kolkata and the coastal districts of West Bengal throughout the night. According to the Met Department, at 5.30am, the weather system was located 150 km northeast of Sagar Island. Kolkata, other districts in Bengal receive heavy rainfall

Kolkata experienced heavy precipitation from early Sunday morning until the predawn hours of Monday, according to reports. The city witnessed a total downpour of 146 mm during the period spanning from 8:30 am on Sunday to 5:30 am on Monday. Other places in south Bengal which received heavy rainfall during the period are Haldia (110 mm), Tamluk (70 mm) and Nimpith (70 mm), it said. (Photo: Agencies)

Flight services resumed in Kolkata airport

Flight services from the Kolkata airport resumed on Monday morning after remaining suspended for 21 hours in view of the cyclone Remal, an official said. Cyclone flooded villages, several dead in Bangladesh

Cyclone flooded coastal villages and left hundreds of thousands of people without power Monday in southern Bangladesh, where nearly 800,000 residents had evacuated. At least seven deaths were reported. Cyclone Remal started lashing Bangladesh’s southern coast late Sunday and was moving fast and would weaken by noon Bangladesh's Meteorological Department in Dhaka said.
