China is likely seeing 1 million Covid cases, 5,000 deaths a day
China is likely experiencing 1 million Covid infections and 5,000 virus deaths every day as it grapples with what is expected to be the biggest outbreak the world has ever seen, according to a new analysis. The situation could get even worse for the country of 1.4 billion people. This current wave may see the daily case rate rise to 3.7 million in January, according to Airfinity Ltd., a London-based analytics firm. There’ll likely then be another surge of infections that will push the daily peak to 4.2 million in March, the group estimated.

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath holds meeting to assess Covid situation
Face masks have not been made compulsory but should be encouraged at public places. Genome sequencing of all fresh Covid cases to be carried out. New posts for specialist doctors should be created where additional manpower is needed. People should be encouraged to take the precaution dose, the coverage of which remains quite poor.

Maharashtra health minister asks districts, civic bodies to ramp up Covid-19 testing

A day after the Union government’s latest directive on Covid, state health officials announced on Wednesday that all Covid-positive samples would be sent for genome sequencing. The practice so far was to take up random positive samples for sequencing, but there has been such a drop in positivity rates that the state has decided to sequence all samples that test positive. "The total number of samples undergoing genome sequencing may slightly in-crease, but we want to be cautious,” said state surveillance officer Dr Pradip Awate.
India logged 185 new coronavirus infections, while the active cases declined to 3,402, according to the Union health ministry data updated on Thursday.
While Covid cases increase in Chinese cities, cases in Mumbai — the country's worst hotspot during the first and second waves of the pandemic in 2020 and 2021, respectively — are at the lowest ever. Uttarakhand preparing to issue fresh SOP
The Uttarakhand government is preparing to issue a fresh set of standard operating procedure on Covid-19 based on the Centre's guidelines following a sudden spurt in cases in some countries, health minister Dhan Singh Rawat said on Wednesday.
