NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will review the situation related to Covid-19 in the country at a high-level meeting Thursday afternoon, officials said.
The meeting comes a day after Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya reviewed the situation and asked people to follow Covid-appropriate behaviour, including wearing masks in crowded places, and getting vaccinated.
Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal too has called an emergency meeting on Thursday to review the preparations against the disease. Deputy CM Manish Sisodia along with other senior officials of the Health Department will participate in the meeting.
Official sources have said random sample testing will be done at airports for international passengers arriving from China and other countries.
The Centre has briefed all states and UTs to step up the collection of samples and genome-sequencing to identify possible new variants.
There has been a sudden spurt in Covid cases in China and some other countries. The surge has been blamed on BF.7, a sub-lineage of the Omicron variant of the Covid virus.
Four cases of BF.7 has been detected in India as well- three from Gujarat and one from Odisha. All four patients were either asymptomatic or had mild symptoms and have now recovered.
