NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Monday ordered attachment of property of senior Haryana IPS officer RK Sharma, absconding prime accused in the journalist Shivani Bhatnagar murder case, as it allowed police to initiate measures to declare him a proclaimed offender.
Delhi Police also approached the ministry of external affairs for revocation of the passport of Sharma, who has been evading arrest for over a month despite issuance of non-bailable warrant (NBW) against him and failure of his three attempts to obtain anticipatory bail, police sources said.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Dilbag Singh, after considering the material on record, ordered allowing of the process under Section 83 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) which entails attachment of assets of an absconding accused.
The court allowed the police to initiate steps under Section 82 of CrPC which involves proclamation requiring appearance of an accused person against whom a warrant has been issued and is absconding or is concealing himself disallowing execution of warrant.
The proclamation will be pasted at Sharma''s residence in Panchkula on Tuesday, they said.
