India vs New Zealand Highlights, 3rd Test Day 3: India suffer first-ever 0-3 series whitewash at home, lose by 25 runs against New Zealand
India vs New Zealand Live Score, 3rd Test Day 3: New Zealand made history by completing a stunning 3-0 series sweep over India, defeating the hosts by 25 runs in the third and final Test at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. This marked the first time India has been whitewashed in a home Test series since their 2-0 defeat to South Africa in 2000.
On a tricky, spin-friendly track, India faltered in their pursuit of a modest 147-run target, collapsing to 121 all out on day three. Ajaz Patel, the star of the match, delivered a match-winning performance with figures of 6-57, his second five-wicket haul in the game, sealing New Zealand's landmark victory.
India’s batting line-up crumbled under pressure on a turning pitch, with Patel wreaking havoc. The hosts found themselves in deep trouble early on, reduced to 29-5 in their second innings. Despite a valiant knock of 64 from wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant, India failed to recover from the early damage.
Pant's aggressive counter-attack gave India hope as he struck nine boundaries and a six in a gritty 64, but the rest of the batting order offered little resistance. The next highest score was Washington Sundar’s 12 not out, highlighting India’s struggles against New Zealand's relentless spin attack.
Patel, who had claimed 5-103 in the first innings, was once again the destroyer-in-chief, supported by fellow spinners Glenn Phillips and Rachin Ravindra, as the Black Caps secured a hard-fought victory.

India vs New Zealand Live Score: OUT! Phillips removes Jaiswal | India 28/4 in 6.5 overs, need 119 more to win
LBW! Yashasvi Jaiswal took the review but lost it. It was an in-drifter that goes on straight with the arm to rap him on the front leg. There's a spike on UltraEdge but the ball seems to be sandwiched between bat and pad. The ball-tracking showed it hitting leg stump. Glenn Phillips joins the spin party at Wankhede.

India vs New Zealand Live Score: OUT! Ajaz Patel gets rid of Virat Kohli | India 18/3 in 5.3 overs
Edged & gone! India are going down like a pack of cards at Wankhede at the moment.
Second wicket for Ajaz Patel, and another failure for Virat Kohli. Nicely flighted by Ajaz, drifts in and draws the batter forward. Kohli isn't quite to the pitch of the ball as he presses forward to block. The ball, then, spins away to trim the outside edge. Daryl Mitchell takes a low catch at first slip. Kohli gone for 1. And India are three down inside six overs of the tricky 147-run chase.

IND vs NZ Live Score: OUT! Matt Henry dismisses Rohit Sharma early | India 13/1 in 3 overs
BIG WICKET! Rohit Sharma (11 off 11 balls) is out cheaply and early again. A rash shot at this stage, Rohit mishits it and is caught by Glenn Phillips off Matt Henry. Rohit goes for the pull shot against a ball that's not so short. The ball lobs up in the air off the splice of the bat and Phillips backpedals from midwicket to complete the catch.

India vs New Zealand Live Score: More from Pitch Report
"If you were a bowler, you'd agree you could bowl from any of the ends and I feel there's enough happening in both the ends. But if I had to suggest, I'd say the commentary box end has produced a lot more wickets for the spinners. But that doesn't mean from the pavilion end, not too much is happening. Probably not as abrasive as this side because there's a little more rough in front of the batter. Batting on both ends is going to be hard work and the bowlers will enjoy bowling here. Ajaz is going to be the threat for India, simply because of the lengths that he bowls and how he slowed up. That's where the left-handers are going to be key for India. Yesterday in the pre-lunch session, there wasn't too much effect of Ajaz Patel because of how Rishabh Pant played. So if the left-handers come and play him aggressively, I think India can cruise home." - Murali Kartik and Dinesh Karthik

IND vs NZ Live Score: Day 3 Pitch Report
"Day three of this Test match and this game has come a long way. 14 wickets, 15 wickets and I am pretty sure that day three is going to produce a result. New Zealand have the option of using any of the rollers or not roll it at all. If you use a heavy roller, it becomes much slower in nature. If you use a light roller, it tends to bind it up and keep it as quick as it is. But New Zealand could do the clever thing and not take a roller at all which would mean the pitch will have natural disintegration. There is the opportunity for two rolling sessions to happen - one NZ could take it and soon after, before India's batting, they have the opportunity to take the roller as well. That's a very interesting part of today's play. Let's come to something that's even more interesting, this pitch. This pitch has produced a lot of wickets, simply because of the abrasive nature of how this pitch has been in the top layer. There's a lot of dryness hence there's been a lot of turn, the odd one going straight but it's been consistent turn and that's the Mumbai pitch where there's consistent turn and a lot of bounce." - Murali Kartik and Dinesh Karthik

India vs New Zealand Live Score - It will be a tricky chase at Wankhede
The highest successful run-chase in Tests at the Wankhede is 163 by South Africa in 2000. Incidentally, that was the last time India were clean swept by an opposition in a home Test series (minimum 2 Tests).
Imagine handed over the Test captaincy and first up is a tour of India, who hadn't lost a Test series at home since 2012.
Not just that, leading a side that had not only ever won a Test series in India but also emerged winners in only two Test matches in India since the first Test they played in India since 1955, with the first win coming at Nagpur in 1969 and the second at Mumbai in 1988.
Two victories for the Kiwis out of the 36 Tests in India. Not even the long-standing and highly successful New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming could win a Test in India.
So history favoured India. With an impeccable record at home and match-winners to boost, no one gave the Kiwis a chance to ruffle a feather.
But as they say that fortune favours the brave, Tom Latham was ready for his maiden full-time Test assignment.
Are India in complete control of the match at this juncture?

India vs New Zealand Live Score: 29 wickets in the first two days's play combined - most in the first two days at Wankhede stadium, bettering 25 in the Test between India & South Africa in 2000.
India's hopes of salvaging a win in the third and final Test against New Zealand will rest heavily on the shoulders of their senior batters, especially Virat Kohli, as they prepare for a tricky fourth-innings run chase on a turning Wankhede pitch.
New Zealand, who were reduced to 171/9 at stumps on Day 2, hold a lead of 143 runs, with India expected to chase around 150-160 when play resumes on Sunday.
With the pitch offering sharp turn and spinners dominating the match so far, Kohli's role in guiding India to victory will be pivotal. Ravindra Jadeja (4-52) and Ravichandran Ashwin (3-63) took seven wickets between them to put India in a commanding position, but New Zealand's potent spin attack, led by Ajaz Patel, looms large.
Kohli has had a mixed series, and all eyes will be on him to deliver a match-winning performance in what promises to be a tense, low-scoring contest.
Leading from the front is what a captain is known for. And there is no doubt that Rohit Sharma has led India from the front ever since he was handed over the captaincy of the team.
Rohit was absolutely fantastic with the bat in the ODI World Cup last year and India were looking good to go all the way before stumbling against the mighty Aussies in the final.
Nevertheless, Rohit led India to glory in June by lifting the T20 World Cup title in the West Indies.
But public memory is short. Some failures in the Test series against Bangladesh and New Zealand and the knives are out again and there were calls for change.
Ajaz Patel entered the India series as New Zealand's No. 1 spinner but till the third Test, he had just four wickets to his credit in three innings. He was reduced to playing second fiddle in Pune as Mitchell Santner ran through the hosts.
Santner was ruled out of the Mumbai Test and Patel found his mojo to rekindle his love affair with the Wankhede Stadium, the site of his greatest moment in Test cricket — a 10-wicket haul in 2021. On Saturday, his 5/103 helped Black Caps restrict India to 263 in their first innings.
For Shubman Gill, the end of 2024 is a complete contrast to how it began. Earlier this year, he was still settling into his new batting position at No. 3. Runs were difficult to come by and his spot in the Test squad was being questioned.
Eyebrows were raised because he had last scored a century against Australia in March 2023 in Ahmedabad. Since then, for almost a year, he didn't cross a half-century in 12 innings, 10 of these innings as a No. 3 batter.
But then came the turnaround with a century in the second Test against England in Vizag. Gill ended up scoring 500-plus runs in that series and since then, his bat has done the talking. In 12 innings after that knock, he has got two tons, two 90s — including one on Saturday — and a fifty.
It was the sort of moment which makes us fall in love with the sport of bat and ball all over again. Ravichandran Ashwin, having endured a lean run and ceded the spotlight to younger off-spin colleague Washington Sundar in Pune, won hearts as he pulled off the best catch of his life here on Saturday.
Running sideways for almost 19 metres from mid-on after Daryl Mitchell tonked a spinning delivery from Ravindra Jadeja, Ashwin, all of 38, launched himself into a dive to take a blinder. The catch ended a 50-run fourth partnership in 83 balls between Mitchell and Will Young (51; 100b, 2x4, 1x6) and turned things back India's way. The way he let off a scream and threw the ball in the air, and the way his teammates hugged him after that brilliant catch, was testament to what Ashwin means to this side.
Charged up after that piece of magic, Ashwin unleashed a string in his bow. Two deadly carrom balls accounted for the dangerous-looking Glenn Phillips and Young, with both batters perhaps expecting the ball to turn. In the process, Ashwin became the most successful bowler at the Wankhede with 41 wickets, breaking leg-spin great Anil Kumble's record of 38. He had earlier foxed the dangerous Rachin Ravindra too.
It's all about one good partnership when you are chasing a total which is around 150-160. If you have one partnership about 70-80 runs the match is done and dusted.

India vs New Zealand Live Score: 'It's (the pitch) turning quite sharply'
New Zealand lead by 143 runs in their second innings, after Indian spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin triggered an opposition collapse in a keenly fought third Test on Saturday.
The tourists were 171/9 on day two after Jadeja bowled Matt Henry for his fourth wicket of the innings at the stroke of stumps on a sharply turning track in Mumbai.
Ajaz Patel was batting on seven after he took five wickets to help bowl out India for 263, with the hosts taking a slender lead of 28.
New Zealand won the first two matches to seal their first-ever Test series triumph in India and now eye a 3-0 sweep.
"To be honest it's (the pitch) turning quite sharply," Ajaz told reporters.
"I suppose inconsistent in terms of how much it does turn and bounce. It has started to turn from both ends and from a batting perspective that can be a challenge."

IND vs NZ Live Score: Pant eased early nerves with aggressive batting
A late collapse on Friday meant India resumed on 86/4, and Pant eased early nerves by hitting Patel for three boundaries in the opening over before scooping one for four a little later.
Gill was given a reprieve on 45 while looking to charge Phillips midway through the first session, when substitute Mark Chapman dropped a simple catch running in from the deep.
He then reached his seventh Test half-century, as the Black Caps struggled to contain the runs after missing a big chance to turn up the heat on the hosts and boost their own chances of an unprecedented 3-0 series sweep.
Pant, who stepped out of his crease and hit Patel out of the park a couple of times and pulled Phillips for a four, then took a single to reach his fifty in only 36 balls, the fastest by an Indian against New Zealand.
Phillips was unfortunate to miss out again when Henry dropped Pant on 53, but Sodhi trapped the batsman lbw to end the fifth-wicket partnership for 96.

India vs New Zealand Live Score: New Zealand lead India by 143 runs
Shubman Gill missed out on a century while Rishabh Pant scored a quick-fire 60 as India made 263 in response to New Zealand's 235 before their spinners reduced the tourists to 171/9 at stumps on day two of the low-scoring third Test in Mumbai on Saturday.
Ajaz Patel was unbeaten on seven after Will Young's battling 51 in testing conditions, as New Zealand wiped out a slender 28-run deficit and built up a valuable lead of 143 at the end of another sweltering day at the Wankhede Stadium.
Akash Deep put New Zealand under some early pressure in their second stanza when he castled skipper Tom Latham for one and Washington Sundar snared opener Devon Conway for 22 at the start of an absorbing final session.
Ravichandran Ashwin (3-63) had Rachin Ravindra stumped for four to leave New Zealand in trouble at 44-3, before pulling off a fine catch that got rid of the dangerous Daryl Mitchell for 21 after the batsman had put on a 50-run stand with Young.
Ravindra Jadeja (4-52) took his second wicket by dismissing Tom Blundell for four, while Ashwin snared the aggressive Glenn Phillips for 26 before the momentum swing India's way further after Ish Sodhi fell for eight.
Young looked to take the game away from India with a patient effort but spooned one back to Ashwin and Matt Henry was castled by Jadeja for 10 on the last ball of the day.

IND vs NZ Live Score: New Zealand struggled against Jadeja and Ashwin
New Zealand then slumped to 44/3. Akash Deep bowled Tom Latham for one, Sundar had Devon Conway caught at slip for 22 while Rachin Ravindra was stumped for four off Ashwin.
Will Young (51) and Daryl Mitchell fought back with a 50-run stand for the fourth wicket before Mitchell went for 21 when Ashwin pulled off a running catch at long-on off Jadeja.
Jadeja also dismissed Tom Blundell for the second time in the match. Glenn Phillips then staged a brief rally with three sixes before he was bowled for 26 by Ashwin.
Ish Sodhi also fell to Jadeja before the spinner claimed the wicket of Matt Henry from the final ball of the day.
New Zealand won the first two Tests in Bengaluru and Pune by eight wickets and 113 runs respectively, registering a landmark first test-series win in India.

Hello and welcome to the live coverage of the third day action in the third and final Test between India and New Zealand at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai.
Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin shared seven wickets as India seized control on day two of the third Test against New Zealand on Saturday.
New Zealand were 171/9 in their second innings at stumps, a lead of just 143 runs, after Jadeja took his haul of wickets in the match to nine by claiming 4-52 while Ashwin picked up 3-63.
Earlier, India was bowled out for 263 in their first innings. Shubman Gill top-scored with 90, including seven fours and a six. Ajaz Patel had figures of 5-103.
Gill and Rishabh Pant (60) put on 96 for the fifth wicket to dig India out of trouble after they started the day on 86/4. Washington Sundar also contributed a useful 38 not out off 36 balls, including four fours and two sixes.
Patel again showed his liking for the Wankhede Stadium, taking his total of wickets at the venue to 19 in just three innings.
India vs New Zealand Live Score, 3rd Test Day 3: New Zealand completed an unprecedented 3-0 series sweep in India as the Black Caps dismissed the hosts for 121 on a tricky wicket to secure a 25-run victory on day three of the third and final test in Mumbai on Sunday.
The last time India were blanked at home was in 2000, in a two-match series against South Africa. Rohit Sharma's side will be feeling the heat ahead of a challenging five-match series against Australia.
Rishabh Pant was the lone Indian batsman to show resistance as he made a sublime 64 after the hosts were reduced to 29-5 on a turning Wankhede Stadium track.
Ajaz Patel claimed 6-57, his second five-wicket haul in the match, to skittle the hosts again.
Sharma threw the first punch by stepping out of his crease to hit Matt Henry for a four in the opening over, but the skipper's disappointing recent run of form continued when he fell for 11 after a rash shot against the same bowler.
Patel made it two wickets in two overs as Shubman Gill, who had scored a splendid 90 in the first innings, left a ball that crashed into the stumps and departed for one.
Virat Kohli did not last long after arriving at the crease as he edged Patel back to slip on one to leave India in trouble at 18-3 on a tricky Wankhede Stadium pitch.
The crowd fell silent again as Yashasvi Jaiswal was trapped lbw for five by Glenn Phillips and Sarfaraz Khan hit a full toss from Patel straight to Rachin Ravindra in the deep on one.
Ravindra Jadeja steadied the ship alongside Pant in a 42-run stand, but a stunning catch by Will Young meant India were on the ropes at 71-6.
Patel dismissed Pant following a New Zealand review after lunch, although the batsman appeared to suggest that he had not made contact with the ball before it was caught.
The runs dried up after that and India collapsed in a heap.
New Zealand resumed their second innings on 171-9 earlier, but India needed only 14 balls to bowl the Black Caps out, as Jadeja had Patel caught in the deep to end with fine figures of 5-55 after also bagging five in the first stanza.
