Coronavirus live updates: Canada health regulator approves Pfizer vaccine
India reported 32,080 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking the tally to 97,35,850, according to data shared by the health ministry on Wednesday. Active cases in the country now stand at 3,78,909. A total of 36,635 fresh recoveries have pushed the national recovery rate to 94.66 per cent. Stay with TOI for latest updates.

Trump administration passed on chance to secure more of Pfizer vaccine
Before Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine was proved highly successful in clinical trials last month, the company offered the Trump administration the chance to lock in supplies beyond the 100 million doses the pharmaceutical maker agreed to sell the government as part of a $1.95 billion deal over the summer.

Bharat Biotech is conducting the largest Phase-3 clinical trials in India on 26,000 subjects across 25 sites.
At present, phase-3 clinical trials for Covaxin are ongoing in Delhi, UP, Bihar, Maharashtra, Punjab, Assam and other states. The vaccine is based on a two-dose schedule and its efficacy is determined 14 days after the second dosage.

Positivity rate lowest in six months in Delhi, rush in hospitals eases
The positivity rate of Covid-19 touched 3.15%, the lowest in nearly six months, on Monday. This was also the seventh day running when the positivity rate — number of positive cases from those tested — remained below 5%. The positivity rate on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday was 4.96%, 4.78%, 4.2% and 3.68%, respectively.

The United States lost 15,000 people to Covid-19 last week, the deadliest seven days since April, and health officials warned that the worst is yet to come. The number of new coronavirus cases rose 19% to 1.4 million in the week ended Dec. 6, after falling the previous week as many testing centers were closed for the Thanksgiving holiday, according to a Reuters analysis of state and county reports.
