Congress to prepare for strong contest on all 7 Delhi Lok Sabha seats in 2024 elections: Alka Lamba
NEW DELHI: The Congress has decided to start preparations on all the seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. This was decided in a meeting convened by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday and attended by Rahul Gandhi.
"We have been asked to prepare for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. It has been decided that we will start preparations on all the 7 seats. Seven months are left and all the party workers have been asked to prepare for all seven seats," Congress leader Alka Lamba said.
"How many seats we will contest will be decided later, but we have been given instructions to prepare with all our strength on all the 7 seats of Delhi," she said.
Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party that rules Delhi and is a part of the new opposition alliance INDIA reacted strongly to the Congress leader's remarks.
"If they have decided against alliance in Delhi, there is no point attending the next INDIA alliance meeting," AAP spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar said.
"The Congress has to come to us for alliance as it has no presence in Delhi. Our top leadership will decide if we attend the next opposition meeting," she added.
AAP leader and Delhi minister Saurabh Bhardwaj said "Our central leadership will decide this. Our political affairs committee and INDIA parties will sit together and discuss about poll alliance."
The Delhi Congress leaders feel the party can do well in the national capital in the next Lok Sabha elections. They are also apprehensive about the corruption cases against AAP leaders.
"After Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo yatra we have seen a significant change in the way people look at the Congress and so we have been told to prepare for all seven seats," the Congress leader said.
"The cases against AAP leaders were also discussed during the meeting, " Lamba said.
