NEW DELHI: Congress on Monday assailed Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's diatribe against party President Sonia Gandhi during the Gaurav Yatra saying it was a campaign of hatred aimed at dividing people on communal lines.

His is a campaign of hatred focussed solely with the objective of dividing people on communal lines.<br />"This is a deliberate design to divert the attention of the people from the stinking rule of BJP in the state", party Spokesman S Jaipal Reddy told reporters.<br />Accusing Modi of launching a personalised attack on Gandhi, Reddy said the chief minister had nothing to show by way of "positive" record of BJP in terms of development, relief to earthquake vistims for which the state had got so much international aid.<br />Describing Modi as "archetypal" of representatives of all BJP leaders who have the backing of people like Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani and Party General Secretary Rajnath Singh, "who represent confrontation, conflict and hatred contrary to Congress ideals of conciliation, development and good will and amity".<br />Reddy parried questions on the Gaurav Yatra stating that though there were sizeable crowds at its launch site, most of them were brought from different parts of the state as locals stayed away from it.<br />Asked why the Congress was opposed to the <span style="" font-style:="" italic="">yatra</span>, Reddy said, "we are not opposed to the yatra but the motive behind it that is to divide the people on communal lines". </div> </div>
