CITU unhappy with Sahib Singh's claim

NEW DELHI: The Left-affiliated Centre for Indian Trade Union (CITU) on Monday contested labour minister Sahib Singh Verma's statement that two new Bills on the unorganised sector workers and contract labour were unanimously accepted in the three-day Indian Labour Conference.

NEW DELHI: The Left-affiliated Centre for Indian Trade Union (CITU) on Monday contested labour minister Sahib Singh Verma’s statement that two new Bills on the unorganised sector workers and contract labour were unanimously accepted in the three-day Indian Labour Conference (ILC).
Rubbishing the labour minister’s claim that the ILC had unanimously accepted the two proposed labour Bills, the CITU said: ‘‘The ministry did not circulate any revised draft of the Bill despite demand by the workers that the draft reportedly cleared by the group of ministers (GoM), chaired by DPM L K Advani, be placed before the ILC.’’
There was no agenda on a new Bill on contract labour.

CITU said the report of the committee on the rationalisation of labour laws ‘‘only recorded the workers’ views and employers’ views and ended with expressing a pious wish that the discussion should further continue to reach a consensus’’.
