JALANDHAR: Thousands of people, on Sunday, came out on the streets to take part in a candle light march to support family of Gurkirat Singh Sekhon, who was shot dead last week.
The supporters announced social and economic boycott of SAD MLA Sarabjit Makkar’s family, whose councillor nephew Ram Simran Singh Makkar had allegedly committed the crime.
The speakers who addressed the gathering minced no words in warning the police, government and political class, against hushing up the case.

Gurkirat’s father Rajvir Singh Sekhon, who was overwhelmed by the huge turn out of supporters said that a new strength has been added in his fight for justice. He said that he would open an exclusive office where sufferers of the Makkar family could address their complaints and legal aid would be provided to them.
All these cases would be vigorously pursued and those who had to bow to the might of Makkars would collectively fight for justice, he added.
Several NGOs have also joined the cause and a special online campaign has been launched for the same.
Meanwhile, the four accuse including the SAD MLA’s nephew councillor Ram Simran Singh Makkar, were remanded to five-day police custody on Saturday. The four had surrendered in the court of duty magistrate on Friday.
