The kidnap and reported murder case of Ram took an interesting turn when Ram's son and close family members claimed that they had a telephonic talk with Ram.
GUWAHATI: The Assam police has sent samples of the body believed to be that of FCI's North East head P C Ram to Hyderabad for DNA test following the claim of his son that the official could be alive. "The police have sent the body samples for DNA tests. The body was recovered from Baksa district and subsequently confirmed by Prabin (Ram's son) to be that of his father before the latest claim that he could be alive," G P Singh, DIG, central western range said. "The police through media reports have come to know about the phone call made to Prabin by a person claiming to be his father on Friday and subsequently sent the samples for tests to ascertain the truth and clear any doubt," Singh, who is supervising investigations into the kidnap episode, said.
The kidnap and reported murder case of Ram took an interesting turn on Friday when Prabin and close family members claimed that Ram had a telephonic talk with them for eight minutes at 4.15 pm stating that he was alive and ULFA had demanded release of two captive cadres housed in Guwahati Central Jail in lieu of his release.
"Investigations are already on to nab the culprits behind the incident and now because of this new twist (of Ram being alive) search operations will be launched," he said. Claiming that sufficient clues have been gathered by the investigating team in the case, the senior police official said these could not be divulged due to security reasons. "What we can say is that clues have been gathered and if any information is important we will divulge it," he said.
The police official revealed that June Murmu, maid servant-turned-adopted daughter of Ram, who had first identified the body, has been interrogated but "she has not yet been arrested". The police suspected the involvement of Murmu as she belonged to Baksa district from where the body was found and reportedly introduced ULFA militants to him as contractors. "Operations are already on and the police is probing all aspects," he said.
