BC political front urges PM to take up caste census

’s population for formulating welfare schemes and implementation.

Addressing a press conference BCPF chairman K Murali Manohar, convenor D Sammaiah, Ch Prabhakar, Beemanapally Votoba and others leaders on Thursday said that the caste census were required in the ensuing enumeration of national population census 2021 for the fulfilment of demands and aspiration of the majority communities in the country. They said the caste census was last done in 1931 and later caste enumeration was completely stopped.

“In the absence of caste census both the Centre and state governments continue to rely on fictitious data to formulate suitable development policies and programmes and unless the problems and issues relating to more than 50% of the nationals population are understood in a right spirit and scientific manner,” Murali Manohar said. In the absence of the correct date all the government departments had been using assumed data, the BCPF leaders said.

They said the UPA government had promised on the floor of the

Parliament

in 2010 that the caste census would be conducted as part of the 2011 census. But later, the Centre went back on its earlier promise and conducted socio economic caste census during 2011-2021 as part of ministry of rural development’s survey of social economic status of households for which nearly Rs 4,900 crore was spent. The caste-based results of the census have not been made public so far.
