Assam poll schedule to factor in Bihu: CEC

Guwahati: Chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on Wednesday said special revision (SR) of Assam's electoral roll was a legal exercise to remove ineligible voters, while signalling that the state's election schedule would be framed around Rongali Bihu after parties sought polls before the mid-April festival. The CEC said SR was done to "include all eligible electors and exclude all ineligible electors", dismissing criticism as political noise that cannot alter a statutory process. EC finished a three-day visit to Assam, with the full bench led by Kumar and election commissioners SS Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi meeting with political parties and reviewing preparedness. On SR additions and deletions, Kumar said officers "performed well..."
