Guwahati: Chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on Wednesday said special revision (SR) of Assam's electoral roll was a legal exercise to remove ineligible voters, while signalling that the state's election schedule would be framed around Rongali Bihu after parties sought polls before the mid-April festival.
The CEC said SR was done to "include all eligible electors and exclude all ineligible electors", dismissing criticism as political noise that cannot alter a statutory process.
EC finished a three-day visit to Assam, with the full bench led by Kumar and election commissioners SS Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi meeting with political parties and reviewing preparedness.
