GUWAHATI: In a fresh jolt to Congress, former Arunachal Pradesh CM Nabam Tuki has offered to resign as state unit chief ahead of simultaneous Lok Sabha and assembly polls. Tuki is lone Congress MLA in the northeastern state, after last few remaining lawmakers of his party joined BJP in recent weeks.
Tuki made it clear, however, that he would continue to discharge his responsibility in the meantime. “I offered to resign a few days ago in a letter to AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge as I need to focus on my constituency. I am not deserting Congress,” Tuki said.
The former CM declared he will contest from his Sagalee seat in Papum Pare district.
Tuki alleged “money power” led to most Congress MLAs to cross over. Three of them joined BJP over the past month, including Congress legislature party leader and six-time MLA Lombo Tayeng. Others included Ninong Ering and Wanglin Lowangdong.
