Apple snubs CBI, won’t unlock Narada CEO’s iPhone
KOLKATA: The CBI’s probe into the Narada sting operation, which purportedly showed TMC members accepting money in return for favours, has hit another roadblock with tech giant Apple refusing to share the phone password of Narada CEO Mathew Samuel with the investigating agency.
Senior CBI officers in Delhi said the Cupertino-based firm
got in touch with the agency via the ministry of external affairs and informed that it was against its policy to share personal details of clients and this principle could not be violated. Apple, however, confirmed that the sting operation was indeed shot on the
Apple’s refusal would mean the CBI would not be able to match the 28-minute original footage apparently stored in the phone with the one submitted by Samuel. TMC members had challenged the authenticity of the tapes in Calcutta HC saying that its originality could not be ascertained in absence of the original device.
