NEW DELHI: Shortly after the High Court dismissed the AAP government’s petition against the Centre, a Delhi government spokesperson said that it did not agree with the court’s verdict and would challenge it in Supreme Court.
Saying that the court order would not be changing anything on ground as the LG had been “declaring all government decisions null and void”, the spokesperson said: “MHA notifications of July 2014 and May 2015 have remained in force all along.

Delhi Government will challenge these notifications in Supreme Court. Initial assessment of the Delhi high court verdict shows it has undermined powers of council of ministers mentioned in the Constitution. It has erroneously given primacy to Article 239 over Article 239 AA. Centre-state constitutional disagreement can only be settled by SC. Going by Delhi high court verdict’s logic, what was the need of accepting aid and advice of council of ministers for appointing special PPs.”
AAP national treasurer Raghav Chadha, while saying that the verdict will be challenged in SC, said: “A democratically elected government cannot be undermined. This isn’t a fight for supremacy, but democracy.”
AAP spokesperson Ashish Khetan added: “Would Prime Minister Narendra Modi have agreed to Pranab Mukherjee running the Central Government after winning 282 seats in Lok Sabha?”
