GANDHINAGAR: The
Aam Aadmi Party on Saturday said it will contest the Gujarat assembly elections scheduled later this year.
The announcement came days after the party registered a win in
Bawana
assembly bypoll in Delhi after facing electoral reversals in Goa, Punjab and in Delhi civic polls earlier this year.
Sources said AAP national convenor and Delhi chief minister
Arvind Kejriwal had almost made up his mind that AAP won’t contest Gujarat elections and party leader
Kanu Kalasaria
had announced it a few days ago.
AAP’s Gujarat in-charge and minister in Delhi government,
Gopal Rai, said that the party will soon organise meetings of workers and observers to identify candidates.
“We will contest the elections only on seats where our three main criteria are fulfilled – strong booth-level network, a good candidate with no criminal or corrupt background and the candidate and his supporters will have to raise Rs 28 lakh fund to spend on election campaign as per the election commission rules,” Rai said.
“The party will soon announce a 10-point agenda for Gujarat’s development. We will go with our slogan ‘Gujaratni Jantano Sankalp, AAP j Kharo Vikalp (Resolution of the people of Gujarat, AAP only the option),” he said. AAP has also announced a mega roadshow in Ahmedabad on September 17.
