NEW DELHI: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath would win the upcoming elections in Uttar Pradesh, according to a survey conducted by IANS-CVoter.

According to the IANS-CVoter Snap Poll, 52% of its respondents say Adityanath will win the UP elections while 37% believe Adityanath will not return to power in the politically crucial state.

Yogi Adityanath was made the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh in 2017 after the BJP, led by PM Modi, won the state elections.

The BJP won 312 seats in the 2017 assembly elections, while SP and BSP could only win 47 and 19 seats respectively. Congress could notch up just 7 seats in the last assembly elections.

The elections in the state are likely to be held in February next year. The term of the present Uttar Pradesh assembly will expire on March 14, 2022.

While the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic brought destruction all across the country, the images from UP of Covid infected bodies floating in Ganga particularly highlighted the misery of people.

Yogi Adityanath has been facing flak of the opposition for his handling of the pandemic. The holding of the

Panchayat

polls during the second wave, which resulted in the deaths of over a thousand officials and teachers on duty, along with the loss in Panchayat polls, has put the BJP in damage control mode ahead of next year's assembly elections.

The IANS-CVoter Snap Poll also found that 46% of its respondents think the situation in the country will improve with a new

Union Cabinet

while 41 % said the situation will remain the same. The sample size of the survey is 1,200 and is based on interviews with adult respondents across all segments.
