NEW DELHI: Jamil Alam, grandson ofHavildar Abdul Hameed, hero of the 1965 Indo-Pak war, has been given a job inthe railways. Abdul Hameed was posthumously awarded the Param VirChakra.
"Our efforts are meant to boost the morale of our Army menand assure them that their families will be looked after by the nation," Prasadsaid at a function here on Friday at which the appointment letter was handedover to Jamil Alam.
The martyr's widow, Rasoolan Bi, told TOI afterthe function that she did not want her grandson to join the Army. So sheapproached railway minister Lalu Prasad for a job for him.
Six yearsago, the railways had given a job to Abdul Hammed's son, Juned Alam. It had alsooffered jobs to two unemployed daughters of unprivileged Vinayak Rao Tope, adescendant of Tantya Tope, who had played a key role in the first war ofIndependence in 1857.
