New college in Tondiarpet opened

CHENNAI: A new arts and science college, set up in Tondiarpet in chief minister J Jayalalithaa's RK Nagar constituency, will begin functioning from the 2015-16 academic year, the government announced on Thursday.
It will function out of the Chennai Corporation-run middle school on a temporary basis and the construction is expected to be completed in two years.The institution, which has come up in the city after four decades, will be the 54th to be inaugurated by the ruling dispensation since 2011. "The college will begin with 11 teaching and 17 non-teaching staff," said a statement. The chief minister has granted Rs 8.28 crore towards setting up of the college.
