Galaxy S24 series goes on sale today: 17 things to know before buying Samsung’s latest flagship smartphones

Samsung’s recently launched Galaxy S24 series is available at a starting price of Rs 79,990. The new phones come with Galaxy AI onboard and new hardware features like the latest-generation chipset, improved storage, better camera features and more. Like every year, Samsung has launched three models in the new Galaxy S24 series. This includes Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 Ultra.

The price of the Samsung Galaxy S24 starts at Rs 79,990, while the Samsung Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 Ultra are priced at Rs 89,990 and Rs 1,29,990 onwards.

Samsung has gone with Titanium construction with the Galaxy S24 Ultra. The S24 and S24+ feature the same Armoured Aluminum body with matte-finish side rails. Also, all three phones feature an exclusive Gorilla Glass Armor glass protection that Samsung claims is far stronger and scratch-resistant compared to Victus 2 glass.

Samsung has finally ditched the curved display panel from the Galaxy S24 Ultra making the entire lineup come with a flat display. That said, the display size remains unchanged for all three of them. So, the Galaxy S24 features a 6.2-inch FHD+ display, Galaxy S24+ features a 6.7-inch display but with QHD+ resolution, same as Galaxy S24 Ultra. And Galaxy S24 Ultra has the biggest 6.8-inch QHD+ display. All the displays are Dynamic AMOLED 2X panels.

For the first time, Samsung has offered an adaptive refresh rate of 1Hz to 120Hz on all three models of the Galaxy S series. This means, the vanilla model also features the new LPTO 2.0 panel as the more premium Galaxy S24 Ultra.

Galaxy S24 series comes with peak brightness of 2600 nits and that’s a lot brighter than the previous generation’s 1750-nits of peak brightness.

Samsung has offered the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset in the Galaxy S24 Ultra, while the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ are powered by Samsung’s flagship chip -- Exynos 2400 that also comes with AMD graphics.

Samsung has made some changes to the thermal management of the entire lineup. The phones now feature a relatively bigger vapour chamber for better heat dissipation and optimal and sustained performance.

Samsung’s new Galaxy AI-based features are common in all three smartphones. All three phones will come with Live translate, transcript, Samsung Keyboard’s generative text features and more.

Samsung has retained the same 50MP primary, 10MP 3x telephoto and 12MP ultra-wide sensors from the Galaxy S23 series. However, the company has made several improvements to the camera setup to make it offer better details and performance.

The selfie camera is the same in all three phones -- 12-megapixel dual-pixel PDAF f/2.2 selfie shooter.

Samsung has replaced the previous 10MP 10X telephoto sensor with an all-new 50MP 5x telephoto sensor with Quad telelens technology and AI multi-frame processing. The primary 200MP sensor remains the same along with the ultra-wide and the 2nd 3x telephoto lens.

Samsung is now offering 256GB as the base storage for both S24 and S24 Ultra. The Galaxy S24 has 128GB storage in the base variant.

All three phones come with the same IP68 rating which makes them water-proof and dust-proof.

All three phones run on the latest version of Android OS, Android 14, out of the box. Samsung's OS update record too has become impressive now. All the phones in the S24 lineup will get 7-year OS updates and 7-year security updates.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is backed by a 5000mAh battery, while the S24+ comes with a 4900mAh battery. Both the phones support 45W fast charging out of the box. Samsung Galaxy S24 comes with a 4000mAh battery with 25W fast charging support.
