The latest cover-up
Photos surfaced on August 22, showing a large, noticeably lighter patch, resembling foundation on Trump’s right hand during his visit to The People’s House museum in DC. He even kept this hand covered with his other while speaking in the Oval Office, seemingly attempting to hide the mark.
The White House has consistently attributed the discoloration to frequent handshaking, stating that Trump shakes more hands than any other president in history. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said, “President Trump is a man of the people and he meets more Americans and shakes their hands on a daily basis than any other President in history,” adding, “His commitment is unwavering and he proves that every single day.”
It was a similar line from the White House, which had previously attributed the bruise to the president’s serial handshaking.
However, this obsession with the President's bruise is not unwarranted. In the Biden administration too, Trump himself, at times, pointed towards Joe Bidens declining cognitive abilities.
But what’s the medical explanation?
Although the White House has been ‘whitewashing’ Trump’s hand makeup using the narrative of handshaking, behind the scenes, Trump has been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), a condition where leg veins struggle to return blood to the heart, often causing swelling and bruising. Doctors say his aspirin regimen for heart prevention may also contribute to the bruising.
Medical experts have weighed in, noting that while aggressive handshakes might contribute to bruises, it's typically age-related factors, like thinning skin and fragile veins, that make bruising more likely and noticeable in older adults.
What’s the internet’s take?
Social media also reacted, with some speculating on more serious conditions, such as congestive heart failure (CHF). Discoloration, especially blue or purple tints, can indicate poor circulation. However, experts caution that without proper medical evaluation, such conclusions remain speculative.
One user has quipped, "Trump needs a new makeup artist," while another person commented, "It's very conspicuous rewatching this that Trump is desperately trying to hid the back of his right hand of the camera."

While the White House maintains he remains in excellent physical condition, the reluctance to share full records or allow direct doctor interviews leaves gaps for constant speculation, and of course, more room for meme-attacks!
