Watch: Viral video of stray dog attacking woman has everyone talking
A video of a stray dog attacking a woman is going viral, and a number of people are worried. Many are asking: Are our streets really safe with stray dogs around?
People online are talking about how quickly these attacks can happen, the risk of rabies, and whether anything is being done to control stray dogs in India.
Even though we don’t know exactly when or where this happened, the video has got everyone talking. The stray dog issue has been around for years, and this clip has made the debate heat up again.
In the video, a woman is seen walking in what looks like a residential area. She’s talking on her phone, seemingly unaware of anything unusual. Suddenly, a stray dog runs toward her and attacks.
She screams and tries to get away but falls down. The dog keeps biting her until people nearby rush in and manage to chase it away.
The post shared with the video also warned about rabies and said:
“A woman walking casually was suddenly ambushed & dragged down by a stray dog. High-risk bite, rabies exposure. Symptoms are delayed weeks, then hydrophobia, terror, and 100 percent fatal once clinical. India loses thousands yearly to preventable rabies from strays."
That warning made many people even more worried and added urgency to the conversation.
As expected, reactions online were strong. Many users said they were scared and frustrated. Some called for strict action.
“This is a problem in almost every city here in India. Stray dogs must be in a government shelter only."
“Man, this is horrible. People who support these stray dogs would be hiding and supporting the dog after a week. Good that she is still alive and someone came to help!!"
“This matter of strays is to be taken very seriously, and the strays just need to go."
“Sadly, this won’t stop unless proper municipal and administrative action/will is taken. Human lives are cheap here anyway."
A few comments were even harsher:
“Should be culled, every single one of them."
It’s clear that for many people, the fear is real, and the anger runs deep.
But not everyone agreed with such extreme views. Some people said the video might not show the full story and asked others not to jump to conclusions.
“For every action there will be an equal and opposite reaction. Dogs do not react without any provocation. Video do not reveal all. Delivering judgment without considering the other side is no judgment. Surely, there will be a story that precedes this incident."
Another person stressed the need for humane solutions:
“No way would the dog have attacked the woman for no reason. As for the disease part, it’s the job of the government to vaccinate & sterilize street dogs. Simply killing animals isn’t the solution! It’s cruel & barbaric!! Considering so many in our society are very cruel to animals!!"
