The idea of living in Goa has long appealed to many young professionals. A quieter life near the beach, while continuing to work, sounds like a dream for some. However, whenever people discuss moving there, one question usually follows: how much does it actually cost to live alone in Goa?
This question recently started circulating on social media after a software engineer shared a video explaining what her monthly expenses look like while living alone in the state.
Tech professional shares her monthly spending
In an Instagram video, Madhushree Joshi spoke about how much she spends every month while living alone in Goa.
According to her, her monthly expenses come to around Rs 82,000. In the video, she walks viewers through where this money goes, covering rent, transport, food, and other day-to-day costs.
Rent and car EMI take up a big share
Joshi said a large part of her monthly spending goes towards rent and her car EMI.
She pays Rs 26,000 a month in rent. Alongside that, Rs 25,000 goes towards her car EMI. These two expenses alone make up a big portion of her monthly budget.
Everyday expenses also add up
Apart from rent and the car payment, there are the usual day-to-day expenses.
Joshi said she spends around Rs 7,000 each month on food and groceries. She also spends about Rs 3,000 on petrol.
Utility bills are another part of the monthly spending. These include electricity, water, Wi-Fi, and maintenance charges. According to her, these usually come to around Rs 5,000 to Rs 6,000 every month.
Gym and other personal expenses
She also keeps aside some money for personal spending.
Joshi said she pays Rs 1,000 every month for a gym membership. In addition, she keeps around Rs 15,000 for other expenses, including travel and self-care.
Together, all of these add up to around Rs 82,000 per month, according to her.
Content creation helps reduce some costs
Joshi also shared that her work in content creation helps her cut down on some lifestyle expenses.
In the caption of her video, she wrote:
“A lot of people ask what it actually costs to live alone in Goa, so here's my approximate monthly expense breakdown as a single woman. Because of content creation, I'm really grateful that I save quite a bit on makeup, skincare, haircare, and sometimes clothes through PR, and occasionally I'm hosted by restaurants, which definitely helps reduce my lifestyle expenses. I also try to save and invest as much as possible for my future retirement fund and for the many trips I want to take.”
Social media users react
Once the video started circulating online, many users began sharing their thoughts in the comments.
Some people felt that spending Rs 82,000 a month seemed quite high for living alone in Goa. Others pointed out that living costs can vary depending on factors like rent, lifestyle choices, and personal spending habits. A few viewers were also curious about how much she earns every month.
