Recent clash: Elon Musk vs Vinod Khosla - what sparked their heated social media feud?
Tech circles are buzzing again as Elon Musk and Vinod Khosla, two of the most influential names in the technology industry, have publicly clashed on X. The disagreement is gaining attention because it touches on sensitive topics like race, corporate culture, and leadership styles, making this more than just a personal spat.
The latest argument began when Vinod Khosla responded to an older post by Elon Musk. In his response, Khosla accused Musk of promoting a racist ideology. He also urged “non-white” employees to quit working at Musk-owned companies, including Tesla, SpaceX, and X. Khosla went further, asking these employees to share their LinkedIn profiles as part of a recruitment pitch.
The post Khosla reacted to was originally shared by Musk in September last year, where Musk wrote, “White people are a rapidly diminishing minority of the global population.”
Elon Musk responded sharply to Khosla, writing, “Vinod, you're not just such a pompous asshole that you tried to stop the public from using a public beach near your house, you've also gone full retard.”
Musk also added a personal note, mentioning that his current partner, Shivon, is Indian and that their eldest son is named after Nobel Prize-winning physicist Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar.
This is not the first time Musk and Khosla have clashed online. As reported by the Economic Times, in 2024, Musk shared an altered image on X showing a sign that read, “No plebs allowed. Property of Vinod Khosla,” referencing Khosla’s long legal battle to restrict public access to Martins Beach. Khosla called the depiction “false and irresponsible” and demanded an apology.
These clashes are more than social media drama. They highlight how powerful tech leaders express opinions publicly and how those opinions can spark broader debates about diversity, leadership, and company culture. Employees, investors, and the tech community closely watch such exchanges to understand how leadership styles and personal values may influence major companies.
Even though Musk and Khosla are both highly influential, their ongoing public spats show that disagreements about values and leadership can play out very publicly and attract global attention.
