Thieves pulled off a sweet score last week, swiping a truck loaded with over 12 tonnes of Nestlé's new crunch KitKat bars. The shipment, worth a fortune in chocolate joy, vanished while travelling from a factory in central Italy to Poland. Nestlé confirmed to AFP that "a truck transporting 413,793 units of its new chocolate range has been stolen during transit in Europe."

A company spokesperson spoke to AFP, "We've always encouraged people to have a break with KitKat... But it seems thieves have taken the message too literally and made a break with more than 12 tonnes of our chocolate." The vehicle and its contents are still missing, with investigations underway along with local authorities and supply partners.

What has Nestlé done to track down the stolen goods?

Nestlé flagged risks of the haul hitting black markets across Europe. "The missing chocolate bars could enter unofficial sales channels across European markets," according to a thestreet.com report.

Luckily, each bar has a unique batch code for tracking. Nestlé explained, "If a match is found, the scanner will be given clear instructions on how to alert KitKat, who will then share the evidence appropriately." KitKat's official X account reassured fans Sunday: "Good news: there are no concerns for consumer safety, and supply is not affected."
