Memes rage on social media after Europe’s chocolatiest crime: 12 tonnes of KitKat chocolates stolen while in transit
In the hush and gush of daily life, a snack break just feels like the right escape. Imagine munching on a chocolate crisp wafer with a creamy coating, that satisfying snap.
But what happens when thieves decide to snap up an entire truckload? Nestlé's KitKat, the chocolate brand with the iconic line "Have a break," is making headlines for a daring heist in Europe, which has people joking about the ultimate chocolate caper right as Easter baskets fill up.
A company spokesperson spoke to AFP, "We've always encouraged people to have a break with KitKat... But it seems thieves have taken the message too literally and made a break with more than 12 tonnes of our chocolate." The vehicle and its contents are still missing, with investigations underway along with local authorities and supply partners.
Users joked about "the world's most delicious crime scene," with one X post saying, "Thieves out here living the KitKat dream—break achieved!". Reddit threads exploded with puns like "Snap, crackle, steal!" and fake "wanted" posters for the bars.
Luckily, each bar has a unique batch code for tracking. Nestlé explained, "If a match is found, the scanner will be given clear instructions on how to alert KitKat, who will then share the evidence appropriately." KitKat's official X account reassured fans Sunday: "Good news: there are no concerns for consumer safety, and supply is not affected."

Nestlé flagged risks of the haul hitting black markets across Europe.
