Meet Sadanand Date: MBBS-IPS officer and President’s awardee who is the new SEBI executive director
SEBI, the Indian markets’ watchdog, ensures a fair playing field for millions of investors. Established in 1988 and given full statutory powers in 1992, it regulates stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and more. Apart from this, it helps prevent fraud, promotes transparency, and supports steady market growth.
The Executive Directors at SEBI lead major departments such as investigations, enforcement, and corporate finance. They work under the Chairman and whole-time members, handling daily operations with special expertise. The investigators act as detectives, examining cases of insider trading, market manipulation, and scams through data analysis, tips, and on-ground actions when required.
Recently, Sadanand Date was appointed as the new executive director at SEBI.
As a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), he's tailor-made for SEBI's fraud fights. He also received the President's Police Medal for Meritorious Service.

Meet Sadanand Date: The cop turned SEBI executive director
Sadanand Date is a 2007-batch IPS officer from the Uttarakhand cadre, with a career packed with high-stakes action. Before SEBI, he was on central deputation at the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). There, "he served in several key roles, including Superintendent of Police in the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) and Bank Securities and Fraud Cell (BSFC)," according to SEBI's official statement.Date’s educational qualifications and exceptional accolades
He is a medical graduate; he holds an MBBS from Grant Medical College & Sir JJ Group of Hospitals, Mumbai. He added a Master's in Police Management from Osmania University, plus an MA (Economics), LLB, and LLM from the University of Mumbai.He is now SEBI’s executive director
At SEBI, Date heads investigations into market mischief, leveraging his CBI chops. "Sadanand Date assumed charge as Executive Director at SEBI on March 4 to head the investigations department, the markets regulator said on Friday," according to a previous TOI report.Top Comment
