Is ‘unschooling’ the new normal? Meet the 9-year-old who skips school, invests in SIPs and has saved Rs 10,000
The current generation is advancing every day, where the new normal is not just waking up to homework and mugging up lessons, but trying hands-on something creative and new.
One such story is of a child who does not cram lessons but follows unschooling and invests in SIPs at the tender age of just 9!
What if kids learned by doing real-life things, not just sitting in class with books? That’s exactly how nine-year-old Vedarth lives every day. He’s one of those examples that show us a cooler way to grow up smart.
Vedarth treats the whole world like his playground and classroom, reports The Better India. He’s gone through more than 100 books on whatever interests him, attends robotics and LEGO workshops, and jumps into tough challenges with a big smile.
He tries his hand at robots one minute, then helps around the house the next. Through this real-life, daily learning approach, he easily picks up life skills and keeps discovering new, fun things.
While other kids scroll on their phones after school, Vedarth sets up his cupcake or chocolate stand. According to The Better India report, he chats with buyers, handles cash, and learns the basics of business while earning some pocket money.
What’s even better is that, with a little help from his mom, Vedarth puts his stall earnings into SIPs, a smart savings plan. It might sound wild for a kid his age, but it makes you wonder - is this the new normal and a new way of looking at learning?
He has saved almost Rs 10,000 on his own. Now he understands how money works, why investing matters, and that good things take time.
His mom, Vrishuti, is an architect who often looks back at her school days. According to The Better India article, she said all that formula cramming barely helped in real life. So she chose “unschooling” for him, letting his interests lead the way, without strict lessons.
Every morning, they sketch a loose plan for the day. At night, they chat: “What did you learn today?” “What didn’t work, and why?” For nine years, these simple questions have built his thinking, step by step.
Vedarth has already won two gold medals and a silver medal in tennis. He’s also looking forward to publishing his own book. Now, he and his mom run workshops to help other families try unschooling too.
For him, learning never stops at school. It’s everywhere - in play, in work, and in everyday life.
