The eerie letter that started it all

A couple, Courtney and Matt, bought a 132-year-old Victorian-style home from a historical society and got way more than they bargained for. Shortly after, a letter arrived from Canada, addressed simply to "purchaser." It came from the "last surviving member of the Madison family who once owned the house," promising to reveal "secret rooms and a few things you may not have been told when you bought the house," as Courtney shared in her viral TikTok video.

Couple finds a boozy hidden cabinet

Their treasure hunt started off in the front parlor. The letter pointed to a spot above the fireplace, where a sliding mirrored panel hid a secret liquor cabinet. What the couple found inside was pure treasure. The secret cabinet included dusty, unopened gems like 1970 French rosé, 1989 Cabernet Sauvignon, bourbon, beer, and cream sherry. "Every day, a new treasure," Courtney exclaimed in a TikTok clip that racked up 1.2 million views. The couple, with their toddler in tow, couldn't believe the untouched stash.

Next clue, in the letter was a spot "in the [bathroom], directly opposite the door in the wall." Courtney called it "by far the scariest room" for its shabby vibe, but it was just a tight crawl space."My guess is there probably used to be some kind of room up here, but really, it’s just a creepy attic space," she said in the video. Right across the toilet sat a tiny locked door leading to a huge trunk room. "There is this huge space. We’re going to try and figure out how to use this space, but right now it’s just kind of a cool, cool room," Courtney added excitedly.

More treasures from the past

The fun didn't stop there. Previous owners left antiques like an 1880s music box playing a spooky wedding march, "Oh, my God!" Courtney yelled in a clip, and even a WWI Army Corps uniform in a basement trunk, Courtney told the Daily Dot.These finds, absent from blueprints since the house predates permits, turned their home into a mystery box.Her TikTok video exploded with 1.5 million views on their tour, where one user wrote, "I love your house! This is like a treasure hunt!"."Our home has no shortage of mystery surrounding it, and we've found hundreds of antiques hidden throughout," Courtney shared with the Daily Dot. Another user wrote, "This is my literal dream! So jealous!".
