Donald Trump supporter Laura Loomer and her long list of controversies

For someone once sidelined by the very movement she champions, Laura Loomer is proving she's anything but out of the picture. Despite her long list of controversies and social media bans, the far-right activist has found her way back into Donald Trump’s inner circle — and may now be playing a direct role in shaping decisions at the highest levels of government.

This week, Loomer's influence came into sharp focus following a now-notorious Oval Office meeting with Trump. During their conversation, she reportedly urged him to remove officials from the National Security Council — a recommendation that appears to have been taken seriously. Within hours, President Trump had fired Gen. Tim Haugh, director of the NSA, and dismissed multiple White House national security staffers.

According to several sources who spoke to the Associated Press, Loomer targeted the officials for what she saw as disloyalty to the "Make America Great Again" agenda. Her push for a purge came as the NSC faced growing scrutiny — not just for using Signal, an encrypted messaging app, to coordinate a military operation in Yemen, but for mistakenly adding a journalist to the group chat. The mishap sparked concerns about operational security and internal discipline.

While Trump publicly downplayed Loomer's role in the firings, telling reporters aboard Air Force One that staff changes were routine and based on performance or questionable loyalties, he didn't shy away from acknowledging her presence and her input. “She makes recommendations... and sometimes I listen to those recommendations,” Trump said, adding, “I listen to everybody and then I make a decision.”

Yet Loomer seemed to confirm her influence more directly. Posting late Thursday on X, she wrote: “You know how you know the NSC officials I reported to President Trump are disloyal people who have played a role in sabotaging Donald Trump?”

Despite Trump's attempt to distance Loomer from the firings, Axios confirmed she had recommended certain people for jobs at the White House. However, Laura Loomer is a controversial figure and has made much news over the years. Let us look at some of such incidents.

Laura is known for her inflammatory speeches and has thus faced bans from multiple platforms and services due to violations of their policies. In 2018, Loomer was permanently suspended from Twitter for violating the platform's policies against hateful conduct, particularly after making disparaging remarks about Muslim congresswoman Ilhan Omar. Her account was reinstated in December 2022 following Elon Musk's acquisition of Twitter(now X). Further, she has also faced a complete ban from platforms like Facebook, Instagram, PayPal, Venmo, GoFundMe, Lyft and Uber.

To protest being banned from Twitter, Loomer handcuffed herself to the front doors of Twitter's NYC headquarters while wearing a yellow Star of David badge, comparing herself to Jewish victims of the Holocaust. She was also wearing a sweatshirt that read on the back, "#STOPTHEBIAS." Twitter closed the conservative firebrand's account after she posted a tweet criticizing Minnesota Rep.-elect Ilhan Omar, a Democrat, and her Muslim faith, calling Omar "anti Jewish" and pro-Sharia law.

Loomer has promoted the conspiracy theory that the September 11 attacks were an "inside job." Despite this, she joined Donald Trump during his 2024 commemoration of the attacks in New York and Pennsylvania.

After losing the Republican primary for Florida's 11th congressional district to incumbent Rep. Dan Webster, Loomer refused to concede, alleging without evidence that voter fraud was responsible for her defeat. She stated, "I'm not conceding because I'm a winner." She also filed a lawsuit claiming voter fraud, however, the legitimacy of the lawsuit was questioned when one of the listed plaintiffs expressed surprise at being included and denied believing in any malfeasance during the election.

Back in 2024, Laura faced much backlash for her racist comments about then-Vice President Kamala Harris. In a social media post, Laura suggested that the White House will smell like curry if Kamala Harris became the President of the USA.

In 2019, Laura reportedly jumped the fence around House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's California house and set up a tent to protest. The incident was reported by a journalist on X. It was later reported that she was accompanied by a few undocumented immigrants.
