A companion that stays for a lifetime and beyond

Your pet parrot may outlive you! Larger species of parrots such as macaws and cockatoos, can live upto 35-50 years, even in captivity. Small in size but big on years, surprisingly there is a connection between the parrots brain and how long it can live. It is said that the larger the brain, the longer the life. If their brain works well, they can easily live in any sort of environment. On an average, small pet parrots can live upto 10 years and larger parrots upto 80 years!

Their feathers do more than just look pretty!

A parrot’s feather is herbaceous, means that it is basically an amphibious plant that is adapted to survive in varying aquatic environments. Their vibrant feathers, signal towards any health and genetic illness. And are also used to help win over a partner in the peak mating season.

Parrots don’t have a vocal cord

Instead of using vocal cords like human beings, parrots produce their sound using syrinx, located at the base of their trachea. They contol both the muscles of their throat and airflow that goes in and out of their bodies. As we all know that parrots imitate, they do so pushing air directly to their windpipe (trachea).

Parrots form strong and lifelong bonds

Parrots mate with only one partner for their entire lifetime, very similar to humans, the male and female parrots share a unique bond, even outside of breeding seasons. But their monogamous relationship is very practical, primiraily focused on survival of their offspring. If a parrot loses its mate, it may take upto several months to recover from that loss.

Parrots have tastebuds


Parrots have about 350 taste buds on their tongues, and are located at the back of their throat, unlike that of humans. They can taste biteerness, sweetness and potentilly, it can avoid them tasting any poisonous foods. This is the main reason why many pet parrots have strong food preferences and can even reject veggies and fruits alike.
