Vishnu's Doosukelatha trailer faces censor problems
It seems like the fight between the Manchu camp and regional Censor Board chief, Dhanalakshmi is back on! Rewind to 2012, when Manchu Vishnus film, Denikaina Ready, ran into trouble with the Brahmin community. Post the controversy, Mohan Babu criticised the Censor Board chief publicly for mishandling the issue. And now, the very same trio Mohan Babu, Dhanalakshmi and Vishnu are involved in a new pow wow.
This time, its Vishnus forthcoming film, Doosukelatha, thats the bone of contention. Mohan Babu, who is also producing the movie, had applied for a clearance certificate for the trailer. But according to executive producer Vijay Kumar, Dhanalakshmi raised objection to the use of the word Dobbayi (loosely translated to malfunction) and has asked the makers to replace it with another word or simply mute it. This did ot go down well with the makers who contest that the word is common usage.
We have shown the censor board officer DVDs of other movies where the word has been used generously. Some of those films were passed by Dhanalakshmi herself, claims Vijay Kumar. But the regional officer is sticking to her guns. In lieu of the ongoing feud, the makers have decided to send the trailer to a revision committee. We are approaching the revision committee for clearance of the trailer, confirms Vijay Kumar. When questioned on why the makers are refusing to mute the word in contention, Vijay Kumar says, If we mute the word in the trailer, the same issue will raise its head while the entire film is being censored. Thats why we are going to the revision committee, who might watch the trailer by Friday.
However, when contacted, Sekhar Babu, chairman of revision committee refused to comment, saying that the file of the trailer hasnt been received by his office. Currently, Im reading about the fracas in newspapers. But the trailer is yet to come to me for revision, confirms Sekhar Babu. The trailer, meanwhile, has been released online. Dhanalakshmi remained unavailable for comment at the time of going to press.
