In 2006, Meera Chopra became a popular name in the Telugu states when she played a crucial role alongside Powerstar Pawan Kalyan in the 2006 film Bangaram. While her silver screen journey started with the Tamil film Anbe Aaruyire, she went on to play leading lady roles in Telugu, Kannada and Hindi films as well. Recently, the ‘Vaana’ actress made the headlines when she lodged a complaint with the National Commission for Women (NCW) against Junior NTR’s fans who trolled her mercilessly by hurling abuses, issuing rape and death threats. The fans created a hate campaign against her on social media after the latter said that she did not know Tarak personally and she was not his fan during a chat session on Twitter.

Upon completion of her schooling and college in Delhi, Meera Chopra went to the United States for higher studies. She did her Master’s Degree in Mass Communication at Michigan State University and worked as a journalist at an Indian media house for three months. Not many know that Priyanka Chopra is the second cousin of Meera Chopra.

After giving up on her regular job, Meera Chopra forayed into modelling and started to walk the ramp at fashion shows and appear in commercials. Popular Tamil director SJ Surya spotted the leggy lass and roped in her as the leading lady in his self-starrer Anbe Aaruyire in 2005. With the screen name of Nila, she went on star in a handful of Kollywood films and her last outing was Killadi opposite Bharath.

Though it wasn’t the leading lady’s role, Meera Chopra created a striking impression among the Telugu viewers as Sandhya Reddy in Pawan Kalyan’s 2006 actioner Bangaram. After getting busy in Tamil cinema, she returned to Tollywood in 2008 with the romantic-drama Vaana. Directed by MS Raju, the musical blockbuster showcased Meera in the author-backed role of Nandini and she proved her mettle by delivering a solid performance. Her other Telugu films include Maaro and Greeku Veerudu.

Luckily, Meera Chopra flew down to Delhi a day before the lockdown was announced in the country and she couldn’t be more glad about this. Talking about her activity during quarantine, she told Times of India “My biggest stress-busters are my two nieces. I have started doing all the kids' stuff with them like painting, playing games and they are reminding me of my own childhood days.” She added, “I am doing a lot of cooking as well. I am also learning acupressure at home by watching videos online.”

In the first week of June, Junior NTR’s fans have created a hate campaign on Meera Chopra on social media after the latter said she did not know Tarak personally and she was not his fan during a chat session on Twitter. Meera’s response earned the wrath of NTR’s fans who trolled her mercilessly by hurling abuses, issuing rape and death threats. Upon this ridiculous act, she lodged a complaint with the National Commission for Women (NCW) and Hyderabad Cybercrime Police against Tarak’s fans.
