​From being a child artist to becoming a global star: Celebrating the journey of Jr NTR as his debut film 'Brahmarshi Viswamitra' clocks 33 years

Jr NTR earned a pan-Indian aura ever since he collaborated with SS Rajamouli for the 2022 blockbuster hit ‘RRR’. Did you know that Jr NTR started his career as a child artist with his grandfather, legendary actor NT Rama Rao? It was for a mythological drama ‘Brahmarshi Viswamitra’ in 1991. The movie completed 33 years of its release on April 19, 2024. On this occasion, let’s have a look at some of the early films in Jr NTR's career.

​‘Brahmarshi Viswamitra’ and ‘Ramayanam’

Jr NTR made his debut with ‘Brahmarshi Viswamitra’ as a child artist in 1991. After that, in 1997, he appeared in the mythological drama ‘Ramayanam’ as Lord Rama. It received the National Film Award for Best Children's Film.

​‘Ninnu Choodalani’


In 2001, Jr NTR made his debut as a leading actor in ‘Ninnu Choodalani’ directed by VR Prathap. The film could not make an expected impact on the box office at that time. It also marked Raveena Rajput’s debut.

​‘Student No. 1’


This 2001 Telugu coming-of-age romantic film helped him earn a prominent space in Tollywood. It was declared one of the most successful films that year. The film was later remade into Tamil. It was directed by S. S. Rajamouli and K. Raghavendra Rao.

​‘Aadi’


In 2002, he was seen in an action drama film ‘Aadi’ by debutant V. V. Vinayak. The film was a huge commercial success and was remade in Tamil as ‘Jai’ and in Bengali as ‘Surya’.

​‘Simhadri’


Directed by SS Rajamouli, Jr NTR’s 2003 film ‘Simhadri’ was a blockbuster hit. It featured Bhumika Chawla as the female lead. The film was remade in Tamil as ‘Gajendra’.
