Fear & belief shape human behaviour in powerful ways: JD Chakravarthy
Actor JD Chakravarthy, known for films like Satya and Shiva and recently seen in Gaayapadda Simham, is currently shooting for Chetabadi, a thriller rooted in themes of fear and faith. The film is set against the backdrop of banamathi, a term associated with black magic practices and belief systems in parts of rural India. Written and directed by Suryas, the film attempts to move beyond conventional horror and explore the psychology behind fear and human behaviour.
Speaking to Hyderabad Times, the actor shared that the film’s subject interested him because of the layers within the story and the way it examines belief systems through human experiences rather than spectacle. “Chetabadi is not just about witchcraft, but also about human fear and belief,” he said, adding that the film presents these ideas without judgement and allows audiences to interpret them for themselves.
JD will be seen in a dual role, portraying both the protagonist and antagonist in the psychological thriller. “Both shades of the characters come from very different emotional spaces,” he shared, adding that he worked on making them distinct through their motivations and body language.
Talking about his preparation for the film, the actor shared that he relied on observation and conversations with people familiar with such practices. “I spoke to people who believe in these practices. What interested me more was how fear and belief shape human behaviour,” he concluded.
