“Big Screen Experience led me to dream of becoming a filmmaker”: Sashi Kiran Tikka reacts on Theatres vs OTT Players
The outbreak of coronavirus and the subsequent lockdown has brought the entire Indian film industry to a standstill for the last couple of months. While actors, technicians and daily wagers are confined to their homes, all theatres and multiplexes across the country have remained closed. During these hard times, OTT platforms have come into action with full guns blazing.

Unwilling to wait till the lockdown gets lifted, a bunch of filmmakers have already decided to release their films directly on video streaming platforms.
While the battle between theatre owners and OTT players is continuing to intensify, industry experts are confident that OTT viewing cannot match the cinematic experience and the current phrase will certainly pass. Speaking about this tricky situation with E Times, ‘Goodachari’ director Sashi Kiran Tikka said that there is no alternative medium that can match the big screen cinematic experience.
“Watching a movie on a giant screen gives us the most satisfying experience. Television only comes in as a secondary option. Big auditorium, advanced sound features and the presence of enthusiastic fellow audience will set the mood for any film. Personally speaking, big-screen experience has led me to dream of becoming a filmmaker. That cannot be done in TV or digital medium and I’m sure that most of my fellow directors will agree with me,” said Sashi Kiran Tikka.
He added “However, this is certainly a tough time for all the people involved with our film industry. From makers and distributors to exhibitors and theatre owners, everybody is having a hard time and I hope that things will get better soon and go back to normal. ”
Sashi Kiran Tikka proved his mettle as a director with the 2018 spy thriller ‘Goodachari’. Helmed on a shoe-string budget, the film packed a punch with the audience owing to its riveting narration, technical brilliance and the power-packed performances of the star cast. Currently, he is busy with Major starring Adivi Sesh as the protagonist. The bilingual film is inspired by Sandeep Unnikrishnan, the NSG commando who lost his life in the tragic 26/11 terrorist attacks in Mumbai.
