5 South actresses who are also singers

In the showbiz world, several actresses proved their own respected lane with their vocals too. These star heroines had the talent to command the audience with both their acting skills and voices. They made a legitimate name for themselves in both the creative arenas and reveled in their dual abilities. Let’s look at some of the divas from South cinema who are equally comfortable with singing and memorizing dialogues in the world of entertainment.

2/6

Raashi Khanna

Imagine a pretty, beautiful and talented actress who can sing. Or you can just name Raashi Khanna. She deserves credit for her magnetic Telugu screen debut as Sri Sai Sirisha Prabhavathi in ‘Oohalu Gusagusalade’ starring Naga Shaurya. Raashi’s strong performance in Venky Atluri’s ‘Tholi Prema’ is also commendable. The actress lent her voice for title song in ‘Joru’ and ‘Villain’, "Thariraa" in ‘Balakrishnudu’ and "Baagaru" in ‘Jawaan’. She has a good voice and her dramatic skills are wonderful!

3/6

Andrea Jeremiah

Andrea Jeremiah is one among the popular singer-turned-heroines in the South. The talented actress has proven her powerful command in both acting and singing. She has been in the showbiz world for years and her crooning can literally give you chills. Have you listen to songs like "Kannum Kannum Nokia" from ‘Aparichithudu’, "We Have a Romeo" from ‘Bommarillu’, "Diwali Deepaanni" from ‘Dhada’, "Ammailu Abbailu" from ‘Current’ and the recent number "Ide Kalala Vunnadhe" from ‘Bharat Ane Nenu’? Not many actresses can sing the way she does with immense passion.

4/6

Mamatha Mohandas

Mamatha Mohandas is an Indian playback singer and actress. She has successfully revived a television career, starred in several movies and to top it off, she has hosted four Malayalam television shows including ‘Kaiyil Oru Kodi’, ‘D 4 Dance Reloaded’, ‘D 4 Dance Junior v/s Senior’ and ‘Hand of God’ - all of which allowed her to show off her vocal chops. She may not be a great actress, but there is no one better than her at singing! Her voice and charisma revives in many hearts. She has crooned the title song for ‘Rakhi’, "Akalesthe Annam Pedtha" from ‘Shankardada Zindabad’, and “36-24-36" for ‘Jagadam,’ etc.

5/6

Nithya Menen

With her debut Telugu film 'Ala Modalaindi', Nithya Menen proved that she has the delightful voice to match her acting skills -- especially when it comes to melodic music. From 'Ala Modalaindi’ to ‘Awe’, Nithya made her mark in Tollywood by portraying meaningful roles in different genre of films. Along with her gorgeous beauty and arresting screen-presence, her singing talent in films like 'Ishq', '24', 'Jabardasth' and ‘Gunde Jaari Gallanthayyinde’ is widely applauded by one and all. The Filmfare Award winner toes the line of a serious actor and soulful singer with ease.

6/6

Shruti Hassan

Shruti Hassan made her singing debut with her father’s film ‘Thevar Magan’ where she crooned the song "Potri Paadadi Ponne". She added some superb singing mojo to her acting credits by lending her voice to songs in ‘Hey Ram’ (2000), ‘Luck’ (2008), ‘Eenadu’ (2009), ‘Oh My Friend’ (2011), ‘3’ (2012), ‘Race Gurram’ (2014), ‘Aagadu’ (2014), and ‘Puli’ (2015). With these numbers, Shruti proved she can do far more than act the life out of her. The multifaceted actress made her big-screen debut as the leading lady in 2009’s ‘Luck’, but her most memorable role is arguably that of Spandana in the Allu Arjun starrer ‘Race Gurram’.
