​‘Cheekati Rajyam’ (2015)/'Thoongaa Vanam' (2015) – 'Nuit Blanche' (2011) – French Film

The above-action thriller Tamil film directed by Rajesh M.Selva starring Kamal Haasan and Trisha is dubbed into Telugu as Cheekati Rajyam (2015) and was produced under Kamal Haasan's own production house. The film is a remake of Nuit Blanche (2011), which is a Frech film that was well-received in Telugu.

​'Vishwaroopam' (2013) – American Psychological thriller – 'Hannibal' (2001)

The above spy film was directed and produced by Kamal Haasan. Have reports indicating its comparison to several English Films especially the 2001 American Psychology thriller ‘Hannibal’, ‘Mission Impossible Series’ and other spy thrillers. The film was dubbed into Telugu under the same title and was a huge successful.

​‘Manmada Bhanam’/ 'Manmadan Ambu (2010)' – 'Romance on the High Seas (1948)

Kamal Haasan’s 2010 film ‘Manmadan Ambu’ was also based on the 1948 English film ‘Romance on the High Seas. The film starred Trisha and Madhavan and was directed by K.S.Ravikumar. The film had its music composed by Devi Sri Prasad.

​‘Sathyame Sivam’ / 'Anbe Sivam' (2003) – 'Planes, Trains, and Automobiles (1987)

The Sundar C directorial Comedy drama written by Kamal Haasan and Madhan discusses themes such as Communism, Atheism, and altruism depicting Kamal Haasan’s humanist views and has reports that have several reflections on the 1987 English film ‘Planes, Trains and Automobiles. The film was dubbed into Telugu as ‘Sathyame Sivam’ and had a decent run here.

​'Nala Damayanthi' (2003) – 'Green Card' (1990)

Kamal Haasan’s production venture ‘Nala Damayanthi’ is reportedly based on the 1990 English film Green Card directed by Peter Weir. The film starred Gerard Depardieu and Andie MacDowell and has been remade into Tamil as Nala Damayanthi starring R. Madhavan.

‘Brahmachari’/ 'Pammal K.Sambandam' (2002) – 'The Bachelor' (1999)

The 2022 Tamil film Pammal K.Sambandam is reportedly based on the 1999 English film ‘Bachelor’ which was dubbed into Telugu as ‘Brahmachari’ and did well musically.

​'Pancha Tantram'/'PanchaTantiram' (2002) – 'Very bad things (1998)

The film’s plot was inspired by the 1998 English film ‘Very Bad Things’ made by Peter Berg in his debut. The film starred Simran as a female lead and was dubbed into Telugu under the same title in, the same year and it was commercially viable.

​'Thenali' (2000) – 'What about Bob?' (1991)

His 2000 Tamil comedy film directed and produced by KS Ravikumar is said to be heavily inspired by the 1991 American film ‘What about Bob?’. The film is also dubbed into Telugu under the same-titled and was economically viable here.

​'Soora Samhaaram' (1998) - 'Witness' (1985)

The above film in which Kamal Haasan starred in the role of a Police officer is based on Peter Weir’s 1985 acclaimed English drama ‘Witness’. The film was reportedly directed by Mani Ratnam’s long associate Krishnamurthy.

​'Bhamane Satya Bhamane'/ ‘Avvai Shanmugi’ (1996) – 'Mrs. Doubtfire (1993)', ‘Kramer vs Kramer’ (1979)

The above film is co-written by Crazy Mohan with its director K.S.Ravikumar is inspired by a couple of American movies such as 'Mrs Doubtfire' 1993 and Kramer vs Kramer 1979. The film revolves around a divorcee who disguises himself as a nanny to be close to his daughter, whose custody is only with his ex-wife. The film was dubbed then in Telugu as ‘Bhamae Satya Bhamae’ in 1996 and it was a huge hit in Telugu.

​'Sathi Leelavathi' (1995) - 'She-Devil' (1989)

This is one of the superhit Tamil Comedies to which again the screenplay was co-written by Kamal Haasan along with its director Balu Mahendra. The film is based on the Hollywood movie ‘She-Devil’. The film was also produced by Kamal Haasan under his home banner ‘RaajKamal International’.

​'Mahanadi' (1994) – 'Hardcore' (1979)

Yet another Kamal Haasan film got inspired by a Hollywood film titled ‘Hardcore’ (1979) The film’s lead role is said to be a prosperous businessman who regains his kidnapped lost daughter and later becomes the victim of human trafficking. The film was made as Mahanadi in 1994 and was dubbed in Telugu with the same title.

'Mahilalaku Matrame'/ 'Magalir Mattum' (1994) – 'Nine to Five' (1980)

His Magalir Mattum is also reported to be heavily inspired by the 1980 English film titled ‘Nine to Five’. The movie was written and produced by himself. That will have three women managers tie up their officer in his own house due to his bad behaviour and increase the productivity of their work in his absence.

​‘Nayakudu’/'Nayakan' (1987) – 'The Godfather (1972)'

The 1987 Kamal Haasan Tamil film directed by Maniratnam is also reportedly inspired by the popular 1972 Italian film ‘The Godfather. The film was released in Telugu as Nayakudu and it was produced by Maniratnam himself. The film also won the National film Best Actor award to Kamal Haasan.

​'Enakkul Oruvan' (1984) - 'The Reincarnation of Peter Pround' (1975)

​‘Amavasya Chandrudu’/'Raaja Paarvai' (1981) - 'Butterflies are Free' (1972)

Reportedly Kamal Haasan’s 100th film ‘Raaja Paarvai (1981) is also loosely based on Butterflies are Free (1972) in which the hero is said to be blind and how he develops a relationship with the girl next door forms the rest of the story. The film is written by Kamal himself and directed by Singeetham Srinivasa Rao and dubbed into Telugu as ‘Amavasya Chandrudu’. The film also won him the Filmfare best actor award.
