Samantha is the one actress who has been constantly in the news ever since her Telugu film debut with ‘Yem Maaya Chesave’ alongside Naga Chaitanya Akkineni. The star actress recently made the entire South proud as she lifted her fifth Filmfare award and the recent OTT award from the south. She also managed to be in the news for making her acting debut in Hollywood with Philip Johan's directorial titled “Arrangements of Love”.
Not just that, the most recent controversy around her item song Oo Antava Oo Antava Mava from 'Pushpa' is also grabbing headlines. These were some of the examples when Samantha became the centre of attention however there are many more instances that kept the actress under public scrutiny.

Item Song ‘Oo Antava Oo Antava Mava’ in ‘Pushpa’
Her upcoming item song ‘Oo Antava Oo Antava mava’ from Allu Arjun’s ‘Pushpa’ has invited some backlash due to her bold lyrics penned by Chandra Bose. The special lyrics of the song went on to say that “In general how men look at women with the lustful mindset”. A section of people wasn’t very impressed with the song and demanded to ban the song for its controversial lyrics and visuals. Accordingly, a lawsuit has been filed in the Andhra Pradesh high court over the same and Sam has been trolled that the actress is doing such content just for higher remuneration.

Debut film ‘Ye Maaya Chesave’ (2010)
She first made headlines at the beginning of her career with Gautham Vasudev Menon’s ‘Ye Maaya Chesave (2010). The film created much anticipation as she was the new face and Naga Chaitanya collaborated with director Gautham Menon with AR Rahman musical for the first time in his career. Samantha’s character in the film ‘Jessie’ impressed many youngsters and the media complimented the actress. Sam's debut was labelled as the best debut in Telugu cinema.

Big budgeted south films
Samantha featured in several big-budgeted Telugu films such as ‘Dookudu (2012) alongside Mahesh Babu, which has become one of the most successful Telugu films of all time. She also had made news by opting out of two big-budget projects in Tamil, Mani Ratnam’s Kadal (2013) and Shankar’s ‘I’ (2015) since she was suffering from a skin disease during the time. She then again appeared with Mahesh in ‘Sieethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu (2013) and Attarintiki Daredi (2013) with Pawan Kalyan, which emerged as the highest-grossing Telugu film upon its release. AR Murugadoss’s action drama ‘Kaththi (2014) won predominantly positive reviews for her.

Performing a special Pooja in the Temple with Siddharth.
She did a Telugu movie ‘Jabardasth (2013)’ with Siddharth. After that, she visited SriKalahasthi temple with Siddharth along with her family and performed a special Rahu-Ketu Puja and took the divine blessings at the ‘SriKalahastheeswara Temple’ despite her being a Christian. Though their film ‘Jabardasth’ was a commercial failure, she was reported to be in love with Siddharth until she became close with Naga Chaitanya.
Later upon her separation with Naga Chaitanya, she was once again in the news when Siddharth posted a tweet around the same period that reads, “One of the first lessons I learnt from a teacher in School. ‘Cheaters never prosper.’ What’s your’s?” which his fans related to her separation tweet. Though Siddharth openly clarified that it has nothing to do with anyone.

Getting married to NagaChaitanya
After working in back to back movies with Naga Chaitanya, she began dating him and gradually the pair exchanged rings in a ceremony in Hyderabad on 29 January 2017 in Goa as per Hindu customs as well as Christian customs. She was in news for using her married name ‘Samantha Akkineni’ later which led to speculations of her separation from Chaitanya. During the time of their marriage, the hashtag #Chaysam took the internet by storm.

Selecting female-oriented roles and movies
Samantha has opted for such scripts where she has a scope to perform always. In 2012 for the first time, she got the role in S.S.Rajamouli’s live-action Bilingual film ‘Eega’ alongside Nani and Sudeep to portray a micro artist who runs an NGO and takes revenge for the murder of her lover. She got more screen time than the Nani in the film, and she was highly praised for her performance in the film and the film also went on to become a huge success at the box office. Later she signed women-centric ‘U-Turn’, Oh! Baby, Majili, Manam, now upcoming Telugu film ‘Shaakuntalam’ she is playing the titular character and her Hollywood flick ‘Arrangements of Love’, ‘Yashoda’, where she has been doing several experimental roles and taste the widespread success.

Controversial Tweets about director Sukumar's Film
In the past, Sam was in news for voicing her opinions through social media, where she pointed a fault with the promotional poster of the Telugu film ‘1: Nenokkadine (2014)’, She said, “the depiction of actress Kriti Sanon crawling behind actor Mahesh Babu on the beach, and he looking back at her disapprovingly as deeply regressive! and stated that the makers were offensive to depict women like animals”, which didn’t go well with Mahesh Babu fans and later Mahesh himself came for her rescue. However, years later she went to act with the same filmmaker for an item song in his film ‘Pushpa’ with lyrics that made fun of men.

Supporting Chinmayi during the #MeeToo movement.
She stood by her friend, playback singer Chinmayi Sripaada over her #Meetoo story against lyricist Viramuthu. Samantha was the first person to support Chinmayi and to stand hand in hand with the dubbing artist till the end, which created some noise in the tinsel town. Later, Chinmayi thanked the ‘U-turn’ actress for her relentless support and said this wouldn’t be possible with friends like them.

Her role in ‘The Family Man 2’
Samantha played the role of antagonist Raji in her maiden Hindi OTT web series, 'The Family Man 2'. She played the role of a Sri Lankan Tamil Rebel, while a few sections of the audience lauded her performance, the Tamil Nadu Government slammed the makers for showing the Tamil Eelam in negative light and Samantha for portraying the above role.
Later Samantha apologized for hurting the people’s sentiments without addressing the topic directly.

Break up with Naga Chaitanya
She made headlines once again after Samantha shed her surname ‘Akkineni’ on her social media accounts. That hinted several that all is not well between NagaChaitanya and Samantha and the two eventually parted ways by announcing their separation after a few days of her name change proving that the media guess is right.
