Born in Chennai in 1987, Samantha Ruth Prabhu comes from a Telugu and Malayali background. She studied commerce at Stella Maris College and began modelling in her teens. Her natural screen presence led to early offers, marking the beginning of her path to becoming a major South Indian film star.

Samantha made her film debut with Ye Maaya Chesave (2010), directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon.
