Music Review: Sivappu
Movie: Sivappu
Music Director: NR Raghunanthan

Two decades ago, Hariharan and Vairamuthu teamed up to come up with the soul-stirring patriotic piece, Tamizha Tamizha in Roja. Now, Vairamuthus son, Kabilan, has penned an equally sweeping number for Sivappu, which has music by NR Raghunanthan.
Sung by Hariharan again, Sadugu Vizhiyil speaks about the plight of refugees, Tamil Eelam and the emotional turmoil of a girl who is caught in the web.

The lines are powerful, yet soft and moving Agadhikoodaram Kadandhu Vandu En Sagadhi Manaveliyil Vizhundhaye/ Sagadhi Manaveliyai Pulveliyakki Sidharu Pookalai Nadandhaye; Eela Devathai Vazha Vazhave/ Thooya Pavangal Naan Puriven. Kodhikudhe Manasu Ulaya
is purely romantic. While Karthik has done a wonderful job with it, Shreya Ghoshal, sadly, disappoints as she struggles to catch the higher notes.
Oru Kanam, a pathos number, in the voice of Sriram Parthasarathy, is interesting. The song has another version, sung by Raghunanthan himself. The orchestration, especially with the flute and strings, provides an interesting twist. In fact, a pat on the back for the composer for getting his background scores right through the entire album.
The last number is Kadavul Paaru, sung by Velmurugan in his trademark style. With folksy tune and some dialogue (or must we say, bickering?) interspersed, the number is fun to listen to.
