Rajinikanth's Lingaa: 5 reasons to watch the film

Ever since the project was announced, the film has been creating a lot of buzz among fans and also within the industry. Rajinikanth is said to play a dual role in the movie which has Sonakshi Sinha and Anushka Shetty as the female leads. Produced by Rockline Venkatesh, the film has music composed by AR Rahman with Santhanam, Jagapathi Babu, Dev Gill, Karunakaran, Radha Ravi and Vijaya Kumar playing important roles in the film. With the film set to hit the screens next week, here is a look at why one should watch the film.

Rajinikanth on screen after years: The superstar was last seen on the screen in director Shankar's 'Enthiran' which hit the screens on Oct 1st in 2010. Though he made a cameo appearance in Bollywood Badshah Shah Rukh Khan's 'Ra.One' in 2011, his fans have been eagerly awaiting to seem him rock the silver screen completely since 'Enthiran'. While the star actor was expected to be seen in Soundarya Rajinikanth's 'Kochadiiyaan', which was to be combination of live and 3D, the film was made completely in 3D, disappointing his fans to a great extent. With 'Lingaa', the superstar is back in action to woo his fans with his style and mass appeal.

KS Ravikumar-Rajinikanth combo: Ace director KS Ravikumar's track record with Rajinikanth has been spot-on over the years. The duo joined hands in 1995 for the blockbuster film 'Muthu' and have been giving hit films since then. Considering their interesting combination after Rajinikanth's success with director Shankar in 'Sivaji' and 'Endhiran', the expectation for the film has gone up by a few notches. KS Ravikumar is level with Shankar (of two hit films) with hits films like Muthu and Padayappa. The much-awaited Lingaa could give the acclaimed director his hat-trick hit film with Rajinikanth.

Anushka and Sonakshi Sinha: Both the pretty heroines, one from down south and the other from Bollywood have been pitted opposite Rajinikanth in the film. It would be interesting to watch out for their onscreen chemistry. Sonakshi is Rajinikanth's good friend Shatrughan Sinha's beloved daughter. "I was nervous on the first day as to how will I do it and all. Interestingly, it was my second meeting with him. The first time I met was when I went along with my parents to Chennai and after that directly I was meeting him on the set of LINGAA. So it was an altogether different feeling. In fact, Rajini sir was more nervous. When I approached him and shared that I am really nervous, he said, ‘You are my friend's daughter so I'm all the more nervous to work with you," Sonakshi said.

Script controversy: All big films seem to be attracting a fair share of controversies around them these days, and most importantly with regard to the script. The director had also reportedly claimed that the story of 'Lingaa' has not been published anywhere and it would be baseless to file a copyright infringement case against it by just watching the trailers. After facing several obstacles, the film is set to hit the screens next week.

First film in 40 years that releases on his birthday: Actor Rajinikanth who made is debut in 1975 with K Balachander's 'Apoorva Raagangal' has gone on to become the most celebrated star in the country. Though his fans have been treated for close to four decades with his films, they have still not been able to celebrate his birthday with his movie. This would be the first time his long career, that he will have a release on his birthday on December 12.
