Tamil cinema has given uncountable films for the fans to enjoy, and it has also explained several sentiments to fans trying to explain how connected humans are with nature and its inhabitants. August 12 is observed as World Elephant Day, to cheer the largest existing land animal. On this day, Let's have a look at five Tamil movies that explained the goodness of elephants.

'Nalla Neram'

'Nalla Neram' is about an elephant saving a man, and his wife's fear of elephants. The 1972 action drama showed how lovely creatures elephants are, and it cleared the fear among many audiences that elephants might kill people. MG Ramachandran and KR Vijaya played lead roles in 'Nalla Neram', which was directed by MA Thirumagan, and the film had a successful run of more than 100 days in theatres.

'Annai Oru Aalayam'

Rajnikanth's 'Annai Oru Aalayam' is about the separation of an elephant and its newborn. Rajinikanth played the role of a hunter in the film, and he catches a newborn elephant for his business. Later, he understands that animals also have emotions, and reunites the newborn with the mother elephant. 'Annai Oru Aalayam', which was directed by R Thyagarajan, features Rajnikanth and Sripriya in lead roles.

'Kumki'

Prabhu Solomon's directorial 'Kumki' is about a mahout and his elephant earning a livelihood. They suddenly take responsibility for protecting the villagers from a wild elephant which they never did earlier. Vikram Prabhu played the lead role as a mahout, and the film portrayed the faith of elephants. The adventure drama also has a romantic track, while Lakshmi Menon played Vikram Prabhu's pair.

'Kadamban'

'Kadamban' is about the life of tribals and their battle to save their forest land from a powerful businessman. Arya and Catherine Tresa played lead roles, while the director Ragava captured some excellent visuals. Arya takes help from a group of elephants in his fight to save the forest and the kind animal has given more power to him.

'Kaadan'

'Kaadan' is about a mahout and his elephant named Manickam. The story of 'Kaadan' is similar to the director's previous hit film 'Kumki'. But it showed the life of two different men and their affection for elephants. Vishnu Vishal and Rana Daggubati played the main roles, and the film was later remade in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi.
