'Vishal' to 'Jayam Ravi': Kollywood actors who started their career as assistant directors

Cinema has welcomed many new talents, and it is wide open to people strong dreams. Before establishing themselves in certain fields, cinema stars develop themselves by working under several top stars. But sometimes they sacrifice their dreams and choose to shift fields within cinema. Likewise, several popular actors in the industry changed feilds, before they established themselves among the audience. Vishal

Vishal is one of the busy stars in the industry as he holds several positions in film associations. Vishal debuted as a lead actor in the 2004 romantic thriller 'Chellamae', which was directed by Gandhi Krishna. But the actor started his career in cinema as an assistant director to Arjun in the films 'Vedham' and 'Ezhumalai'. Later, the star shared screen space with Arjun in the film 'Irumbu Thirai'.

Karthi

Karthi is the son of actor Sivakumar, the star from a well-known family in the industry. Karthi stepped into cinema with a dream of directing films and worked as an assistant to ace Mani Ratnam in the film 'Ayutha Ezhuthu'. Later, Karthi shifted field and made a stunning debut as a hero with the film 'Paruthiveeran', which was directed by Ameer. Interestingly, Karthi then played the lead role in Mani Ratnam's directorial 'Kaatru Veliyidai'.

Siddharth

Popular South Indian actor Siddharth played the lead role in Shankar's 'Boys', and became more popular. Siddharth then developed himself as a popular actor by doing promising films across Tamil and Telugu. But, Siddharth started his career as an assistant director and worked with Mani Ratnam in the classic hit film 'Kannathil Muthamittal'.

Sasikumar

Sasikumar made his silver screen debut in his own directorial 'Subramaniyapuram', and he played a strong role as a Madurai youngster. Sasikumar then shifted to doing lead roles and continued to rock with it. But certain years back to his debut directorial, Sasikumar had worked as an assistant to director Ameer in the films 'Mounam Pesiyathe' and 'Ram'.

Veera Babu

Veera marked his debut as a lead role with the psychological thriller 'Nadunisi Naaygal'. But he then became more popular by playing the interesting lead role in 'Rajathanthiram', which was directed by AG Amid. But Veera Babu's first dream was direction and he has worked as an assistant to director Gautham Menon in the films 'Pachaikili Muthucharam' and 'Vaaranam Aayiram'.

Jayam Ravi

'Jayam' actor Ravi has been fondly called as Jayam Ravi for his impressive debut as a lead actor with the romantic drama. It is well known that Jayam Ravi is the son of famous film editor Mohan, and his brother Raja is also a director. Jayam Ravi worked as an assistant to director Suresh Krissna in Kamal Haasan's dual-action drama 'Aalavandhan'. But he has chosen acting as a profession since his elder brother involved himself in direction.
