For several years now, producer
Kathiresan of Five Star Creations has alleged that actor
Dhanush accepted an advance payment for a film but has not allotted dates for the project. The issue has sparked controversy, with ongoing disputes between the production house and FEFSI President R.K. Selvamani. Both parties have made public accusations against each other, keeping the matter in the spotlight within the Tamil film industry.
Clashes between producers and FEFSI leaders intensify.
Addressing the press recently, the Tamil Nadu Film Producers Council shared its stance on the matter. The council condemned R.K. Selvamani’s allegation that the council was using him as a pawn in the dispute. They labeled the claim baseless and unacceptable. Clarifying their position, they stated that Kathiresan is not a key office bearer of the council but a regular member who brought his grievance formally to the body. Following this, discussions were initiated to resolve the issue.
Producers Council clarifies stance.
The council firmly denied asking for interest on the amount paid to Dhanush. Instead, they emphasized that it was Selvamani who had assured them that Dhanush's side would return the money.
Based on that assurance, the producer had paid an advance, expecting a film in return. The Producers Council made it clear that they simply asked Dhanush to complete the project at the same remuneration agreed upon seven years ago, when the initial payment was made.
Dispute framed as inter-association matter
Furthermore, the council criticized RK Selvamani for interfering unnecessarily. They stated that this is a matter strictly between the Producers Council and the Nadigar Sangam (Actors' Union) and questioned why Selvamani is involving himself as a mediator in an issue where his role is unclear. The matter remains unresolved, but the Producers Council’s strong words indicate growing frustration over the delay in closure.
