The first glimpse of 'Seyon', directed by Sivakumar Murugesan, was released on the last day to celebrate the birthday of its lead star Sivakarthikeyan. The glimpse immediately lit up social media and interestingly fans spotted a clear reference to Kamal Haasan's cult film Virumaandi. Another interesting aspect is that 'Seyon' is bankrolled by Kamal Haasan.

A glimpse set in the Karumathur Virumaandi temple festival

The 3-minute glimpse unfolds during the second day of the Karumathur Virumaandi temple’s Maasi Kalari festival. The festival is in full swing and crowds celebrate outside. Chaos erupts near a police station where several people are beaten up. Inside, confused officers debate who the culprit could be. One officer asks if it was an atheist. Another claims it must be someone “channelling God.”Sivakarthikeyan enters carrying a staff in one hand and a torch in the other. The background song calls him the “fierce Virumaandi.” An elderly woman screams, “The OG is back!”

Fans celebrate Kamal Haasan link

The Virumaandi references immediately caught the attention of fans as one Tweeted, “Virumaandi watch reference in Seyon.” Another wrote, “Virumaandi watch reference in #Seyon! Nah dude, don’t even make us imagine like that. Seriously. Just picture the theatre vibe if #KamalHaasan aka Aandavar walks into Seyon with that OG Virumaandi moustache swag… Theatre wouldn’t erupt. It would DETONATE. #HBDSK.”
